Job Purpose
The Construction Interface Engineer (CIE) will enact the role of NEC Supervisor supporting the National Grid Project Engineer in executing the site delivery in accordance with National Grid policies and procedures.
The CIE will interface between the Principal Contractors Site Management Team & Occupiers Representatives (SAP/Commissioning Engineers) to ensuring all site based construction activities are delivered efficiently and in accordance with the Works Information
The CIE will proactively monitor the works to ensure a safe & commercially robust position is maintained. client
The role will be site based, covering a number of substation construction sites throughout North Wales to Birmingham
The level of site engagement will vary due to the complexity, scope of works and performance.
Experience Required
Proven track record in Site Management of complex engineering projects, ideally within an electricity substation environment.
Candidate must have experience in electricity transmission constructions activities, particularly substation mechanical & electrical build.
General experience
The candidate would be able to demonstrate experience & knowledge in the following areas:
- Industry construction standards
- Monitoring compliance with engineering/construction specifications
- Site Quality Plans & inspecting materials & workmanship
- Contract management - cost & programme
- Engineering Drawings familiarisation & management
- Understanding of engineering drawings & process
- Safety and Environmental legislation & construction good practices
- CDM Regulations & Construction H&S eg LOLER HSG47 NRSWA GS6
Specific experience
Ideal candidate would have several years' experience and hold the following authorisations
- National Grid's Safety Rules & hold 'Person' or "Competent Person"
- Substations and/or OHL 'BESC' Authorisation
- TP144 Construction Interface Engineer or Site Manager or Project Engineer
Qualifications Required
It would be desirable but not essential to have or working towards the following: -
- NEBOSH
- IOSH in safety & environmental management
- BTEC/ONC/HNC or equivalent experience in an engineering/construction discipline,
- A recognised qualification in construction and/or project management

Team Player, able to work as part of the Project Delivery Team, supporting/working with the Contractor and Clients site operatives.
Strong interpersonal skills, able to maintain a healthy productive but challenging relationships
Good decision making skills, whilst open to innovation and prepared to listen
Will be required to mentor less experienced staff
Computer literate, with good working knowledge of MS Applications ie Outlook, Word, Excel.
