Infrastructure Project Planner
Location: Birmingham, AL
Position Type: 12 month - Contract

The IT Planner position is responsible for providing project administrative tasks for small and medium sized infrastructure based projects and activities. This role will involve working with 5 different infrastructure teams in Computing Services (Integration, Mainframe, Operating System, Storage and Virtual Infrastructure) to coordinate administrative activities including creating implementation plans, scheduling and tracking activities, meeting planning, SharePoint setup/management and reporting status. This position will work closely with the managers and staff in all five infrastructure teams to ensure work is appropriately scheduled and progressing. This position may interface with program and project managers outside of Computing Services to assist with project plan creation for the infrastructure services portion of projects.

Job Requirements: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

  • Bachelor's degree in related field highly desirable
  • At least 5 years of experience with hands on infrastructure support (with a strong understanding of infrastructure)
  • Emphasis should be related to Operating Systems, Virtual Infrastructure and Storage
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting or managing projects in a Matrix resource environment
  • Analytical skills are required to effectively manage activities related to reporting, cost tracking, monitoring and process management
  • Proven ability and determination to manage multiple and competing priorities under tight deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and experience, leveraging these skills to interact with all levels of management and staff
  • High-level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Project
  • Experience with SharePoint site administration and site creation/design

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Work cross functionally with all infrastructure teams to collect and organize information related to an effort or project
  • Implementation with a focus on the infrastructure tasks
  • Utilize information to create an implementation plan that can be used for task assignment and tracking
  • Collect and analyze effort/project information to determine status and communicate issues to owning manager
  • Produce status reports
  • Interface with Project Managers to report status on infrastructure projects
  • Assist with the tasks required for efforts/project implementation to be successful including management of change control, status reporting, budget estimating, and incident analysis
  • Facilitate the change management process for all efforts assigned
  • Perform incident or data anyalsis to assist with determining root cause of issues in preparation for correction
  • Respond to risks throughout the effort/project by communicating with infrastructure team members to ensure risk items are addressed and plans are updated
