Development/Test Engineer - Contract - Dorset - £45 an hour

Key responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will work as part of the engineering team carrying out testing at equipment and system levels capturing test evidence.
  • This may involve testing across either of the main business areas.
  • The Test Engineer will be expected to follow current departmental processes.
  • The successful candidate will work as part of the engineering team at IPT level or at product level supporting test activities to demonstrate function and performance in environment.
  • The majority of the work will be carried out at external test facilities.
  • Occasional overseas (infrequent) travel may be required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities for Test Engineers include:

  • Provide technical input to test rig setups at test houses.
  • Customer and supplier facing responsibilities to discuss qualification activity.
  • Planning, arranging and attending test activities including control of test hardware, test support equipment, transportation and test cost and schedule.

Qualifications and experience for Test Engineers will ideally include:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent
  • Proven experience of testing products to Environmental Standards (RTCA DO160, MIL-STD-810, etc.)
  • Experience of performing environmental and functional testing

Skills & Experience:

  • The test engineer would be sole responsible for receiving test Articles and test procedures then setting up and then running a test(s) and then sending the appropriate data gathered from the test back to the development engineer to review and document in test reports.
  • Whilst running the test the Test engineer should be able to monitor the progress the test, identify and resolve any issues as the test progress', ensure that the quality data being gathered is as required and ensure the test is completed to the expected dates. They will need to have good experience of the importance of working in a safe manner both for themselves when running the test as well as people around them.
  • They should have worked in the Aerospace test environment with particular experience working with RTCA DO160 & MIL-STD-810 standards testing products on the fuel systems, motor drive, braking & actuation systems on aircraft.
  • Candidates who have previous experience within the Automotive arena can also be considered subject to them having the relevant experience around Vehicle/component environmental testing to various SAE & DIN standards. Including testing to SAE J1455, ASTM B117, ISO 17025 or BS EN :1999 standards.
