Description
About 2 years ago I built a WordPress site for my dad’s business. I maintain WordPress sites at my job – but am not involved with the background development. So, while I eventually was able to get his site up and running, it took a lot of trial and error, and there are some aspects that are beyond my expertise. He works for a non-profit and had to use a specific host. They require that a MySQL database be uploaded to their cPanel and the rest of the site is uploaded via ftp. I built the site on my computer using MAMP.
Fast forward 2 years and the site contracted a virus. The host immediately deleted the entire website with no warning. Now, I am trying to figure out if I can upload what I still have on my computer and restore the site.
I have the MySQL database file and it’s already installed on the cPanel. I also have all of the MAMP files – but I may be missing the actual HTML pages. I did not have a backup plugin installed on the site so I’m afraid I may have lost everything.
I am trying to figure out if what I have can get the site back up online, but every time I try to upload the files I get an error – 2 years removed from a process I wasn’t familiar with in the first place, I don’t know what folder to be uploading from and which files are needed. I originally used these instructions, but they aren’t working this time: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-move-WordPress-from-local-server-to-live-site/.
I’m not sure if I can piece back together any of the site with what I have saved on my computer, but looking for advice. Please contact me if you have experience consulting on similar WordPress issues.
Thanks!
