Description

Role Type: Oracle DBA/Developer

Contract Length: 3 months with potential extension to 6 months

Requirement:

An experienced and skilled Oracle database administrator/developer to supplement the existing in-house resources and to assist in the analysis, development and maintenance of information systems and the support and maintenance of its Oracle database Servers.

The potential candidate should be capable of performing and managing a wide variety of computer tasks to a very high standard. Experience of working in a Client Server developer environment is essential.

Strong communication skills and a proven ability to work within tight deadlines are necessary for the position. In addition, the successful candidate should be people oriented with excellent interpersonal skills, organisational and time management skills. Experience of working in the Public Sector is beneficial.

Tasks will include:

  • Coach and mentor existing ODBA team
  • Perform and manage database backup and recovery
  • Design and implement disaster recovery process
  • PLSQL development and support of existing procedures
  • Implement updates and maintain revisions to logical and physical models in distributed development environments
  • Liaise with Oracle customer service and technical support as necessary
  • Design, development, tuning and maintenance of packages and procedures in Oracle
  • Manage database security including access control and backup/restoration
  • Administer all databases across development, UAT and live environments
  • Ensure compliance with Oracle licence agreement
  • Assist with the management of the Department's GIS resources, including database integration where required
  • Provide expert technical advice and support to development teams and analysts working with PL/SQL and Oracle
  • Troubleshoot issues within a .NET Development environment interfacing to GIS technologies and Oracle
  • Database monitoring and performance optimisation
  • Tuning and Optimising Oracle queries
  • Data loading
  • Remote management of database services

Qualifications:

  • The proposed Candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics or other relevant field.
  • The proposed Candidate must be an Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) and this certification must be in Oracle 10g or higher.
  • The proposed Candidate must have a minimum of four (4) years' work experience as an Oracle DBA.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Application Express would be beneficial.
