Mechanical Engineer - Contract - Dorset

A member of the Structures & Sub-Systems Integration Engineering team. This team manages the development of new structures and equipment installation in refuelling sub-systems such as pods. Provides technical direction and decision making in support of project delivery. Manages internal and external resources to successfully deliver allocated projects, through requirements definition, analysis, design, development and qualification. Ensures project compliance with internal processes, regulatory and legislative requirements.

Key competencies:

  • Establish clear requirements baselines prior to commencement of design
  • Define and lead analyses in support of product design
  • Lead integration design to achieve optimal balance between design requirements such as performance, mass, centre of gravity, safety, maintainability and cost
  • Manage requirements verification throughout project execution to successfully demonstrate compliance for a DDP
  • Estimate resource requirements, plan projects and report progress
  • Ensure that projects are delivered in accordance with LCM, SOF-E and other internal processes
  • Work with Programme Management to ensure that projects are delivered in accordance with technical, cost and schedule requirements
  • Manage technical risks
  • Manage external suppliers to ensure compliance with agreed processes and achievement of project objectives
  • Cooperate proactively with other CMS departments
  • Cooperate with management to meet the employer's legal duties and take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions

Essential Skills & Experience:

A successful applicant should have experience in the following:

  • Non-conformances - provide engineering dispositions/guidance to structural related concessions, production permits, reworks and repair instructions
  • Good understanding of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) processes and requirements
  • Product Life Cycle Management (LCM), preferably end-to-end experience. Design review preparation and participation.
  • Requirements Based Engineering (RBE) including population of validation and verification reports. Use of RBE tools (eg Cradle, DOORS)

It is not essential to possess a stress/design background, (the client has dedicated teams for product support), however an understanding of structural mechanics is highly desirable

You will be working with sensitive data and as such you should be willing to undergo BPSS (Baseline) & Disclosure Scotland Security Vetting before being able to commence the contract.
