Description

Roc Search's client are a major naval systems design & manufacturing business currently seeking an experienced project controller with scheduling skills to join them in their Bristol offices. Candidates will need an understanding of engineering.
Main Purpose of the role;
To provide project finance reports, create and maintain schedules, and the ability to coordinate and expedite project activities against schedules.
Primary goal is to aid Project Managers to focus on ensuring projects are executed in a timely and cost efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Finance and Cost Control:
- Preparing monthly cost/contract status reports capturing labour and materials actuals, estimate to complete and commitments to support internal and external reporting;
- Reviewing the EAC against work packages and budgets and supporting the Project Manager in analysis of monthly trends of spend and gross margin;
- Liaising with the finance department for invoice submission and cost control;
- Understanding of Project Scope and ability to identify when there is a change;
- Logging the status of agreed changes.
- Planning and Scheduling:
- Developing and maintaining multi-level Microsoft Project schedules in the project Server environment;
- Developing and maintaining the WBS and creating the cost codes;
- Supporting the Project Manager in developing Work Packages;
- Obtaining buy-in to Schedules and Work Packages from project teams;
- Providing planning input to analyse schedule impact and prepare labour profiles, and coordinate embodiment of project change;
- Maintaining a comprehensive list of contract deliverables and dependencies, coordinating schedule interfaces between different workstreams;
- Reviewing status of Work Packages, progress schedules and expedite as required;
- Assisting Project Managers with weekly and monthly status reporting, metric collation and review meetings;
- Updating Project Risk Registers and supporting the Project Manager at Risk Reviews, Maintaining Issues and Actions logs
- Resourcing
- Preparing and maintaining labour forward load/demand;
- Mapping labour forward load/demand with labour available/supplied.
- Risks, Issues and Actions:
- Updating Project Risk Registers and support ing the Project Manager at Risk Reviews, maintaining issues and Actions logs.
- Internal Development
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities developing processes, procedures,tools and techniques for planning, reporting and project controls.
Knowledge Skills and Experience:
- Ability to produce and maintain detailed and accurate Level 4 project schedules Including management of dependencies between master and sub-projects;
- Strong experience in designing schedules to allow effective roll-up to higher levels and concise reporting of key milestones;
- Sound appreciation of the methods and tools for planning, scheduling and controlling engineering projects;
- Ability to design schedules (GANTT/PERT) to allow clear and accurate critical path analysis;
- Experience of project finance, work package control and finance reporting;
- Experience in administering and maintaining time recording systems and exporting time booking reports;
- Strong IT skills covering all Microsoft Office tools, with advanced ability with MS Excel;
- Organised and structured approach with the ability to manage own time effectively while operating across multiple projects and for multiple Project Managers;
- Ideally APM Project Fundamentals Qualification,
Desirable:
- Recent experience in creating and maintaining complex work schedules for over 1000 activities in Microsoft Project;
- Familiarity with systems engineering and software development life-cycles and the programme management of such projects, preferably within the Defence Sector;
- Knowledge and application of earned value and other monitoring techniques;
- Knowledge of risk management processes and techniques;
- Good working knowledge of MS Project Server ), including use of enterprise Custom fields and data analysis
- APMP (Level D);
- Knowledge of and basis administration skills in Microsoft Sharepoint;
