Systems Safety Engineer - Networks, ALARP, Safety Cases, Safety Analysis

A Systems Safety Engineer with is required to work on a six month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Dorset

Overview of the Systems Safety Engineer contract role

To carry out the Product Safety tasks required to develop and deliver an enhancment to a deployable secure communications system for UK Forces. These tasks include hazard identification, analysis, risk reduction and review of designs, to verifying safety requirements, constructing and reviewing safety arguments/safety cases, hazard log review, and assessing evidence for design certification.

The candidate will be required to conduct Safety Analysis, develop safety arguments and be able to clearly and concisely justify those arguments to the business and to also to our customer.

Key skills required for the Systems Safety Engineer

  • Preparing, maintaining and managing the implementation of Project Safety and Environmental Management Plans to ensure that Product Safety is appropriately managed
  • Hazard identification analysis and review
  • Hazard log management
  • Application of ALARP principles to safety risk
  • Completing safety checklists and safety statements as required for Design Certification
  • Preparation of environmental impact statements (ideal but not essential)
  • Providing advice and guidance to project teams on product safety and product environmental issues
  • Supporting bids for product safety and product environmental issues
  • Providing reports to the Purchaser

Experience required

  • Sound understanding of Safety & Environmental Legislation and Standards
  • The requirements of DEF STAN 00-56, Issue 4.
  • A proven track record in the application of hazard analysis and safety risk assessment techniques
  • Legislative compliance, CE marking Technical Files, compliance with LVD, EMC and RTTE (including DEF STAN 59-411, BS EN ISO 60950 etc.)
  • Experience of having created and maintained Safety Cases and Safety Arguments/Safety Case Reports
  • Knowledge of UK Military environments
  • Experience in the application of military, national and international standards for safety and environmental management

The role is based in Christchurch, Dorset - commutable from Salisbury, Fordingbridge, Ringwood, Lymington, Ferndown, Bournemouth and Poole with excellent access from Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester
