Senior Engineer - Seatings - Naval

Our UK leading defence client are looking to recruit 7 Senior Engineer - Seatings with Naval is required to work on a six month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our Defence client based in Glasgow.

This is a 6 Month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Senior Engineer - Seatings contract role

To undertake a defined range of engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, supplying advice and support to operations and other functions and/or to organise and co-ordinate aspects of engineering activity ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.

Key skills required for the Senior Engineer - Seatings

  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of all aspects within his/her discipline.
  • Able to perform robust analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements based on experience.
  • Knowledge and competence in the design of ship equipment seatings.
  • Experience undertaking first principles structural calculations.
  • Experiencing of employing shock loads to a structural design.
  • Ability to employ MathCad software to undertake calculations.
  • Some experience in the structural design of frigate-type vessels. Some knowledge of the use of Classification Society rules and processes, preferably Lloyd's Register Naval Ship Rules.
  • Sound capability in general structural theory and analysis and its application to ship structures.
  • Capable of producing accurate scantling and general structural calculations.
  • Capable of producing accurate weight and quantity calculations.
  • Ability to assess and check structural drawings.
  • Ability to produce appropriate design sketches.
  • Knowledge of general and structural calculation software.
  • Awareness of shipyard production and fabrication processes and issues with respect to structural design and analysis
  • Awareness of finite element analysis, its application and assessment.
  • Awareness of general ship design issues concerning frigate-type vessels.
  • Ability to produce clear and comprehensive reports and other documents as required by the project. Capable of taking part in discussions with project and external personnel.
  • Has sufficient breadth of knowledge of warship design and the sound judgement needed to be able make correct trade-off decisions

The role is based in Glasgow - Commutable from Kilmarnock, Paisley, Greenock, Stirling and Falkirk with excellent access from Edinburgh.
