MEI Web and Graphic Designer

Contract: Due to the nature of MEI's funding, this job is offered on a one year fixed term contract, to begin by Monday 18th July, with possibility of extension.

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hrs per week

This position is to ensure that the MEI and FMSP websites function as intended, are up-to-date in terms of design and functionality, and are driven by efficient and effective coding. There will also be work to support the technical and design aspects of MEI's Integral resources website; and to help design materials that promote the activities of MEI and the FMSP.

The role will involve working closely with MEI colleagues involved in several strands of MEI's work.

MEI is a leading independent curriculum development body for mathematics and a major provider of mathematics CPD. MEI manages the national Further Mathematics Support Programme and is a partner in the NCETM consortium. The applicant will become an important member of the MEI team.

The holder of this post will report to the MEI Web Manager.

Main aspects

  • Updating the current websites, making them mobile-responsive and adding an online payment facility
  • Regular maintenance work to ensure the sites function as intended and are free of clutter
  • Supporting staff who update the content of the sites
  • Ensuring the sites are up to date in terms of current web developments
  • Working with MEI's Communications team to ensure the design and appearance of the sites is up to date.
  • Keeping the coding behind the scenes efficient enough to ensure updates can be carried out without fuss
  • Working with MEI's Resources team to support the development of Integral
  • Working with strand teams to create images, adverts and flyers that promote their activities

  • Essential
  • Strong web and graphic design skills
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop
  • Fluency with HTML and CSS
  • Experience designing responsive websites
  • Experience in optimising user experience and user interface
  • Experience creating and maintaining data-driven websites
  • Proficiency with MySQL and PHP, and familiarity with Javascript
  • Expertise in search engine optimisation
  • Skills in optimising webpage loading speed
  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Appropriate web design professional qualification
  • Education related IT skills such as using online classrooms, online learning environments or producing video resources
  • Expertise with mathematics teaching and learning technology
  • Experience of working in an educational setting and an interest in mathematics and/or education would be advantageous
  • An appreciation of MEI's work and philosophy
  • Graduate applicants preferred but all applications will be considered

    This role is Home-Based with travel around England!
