Oracle and SQL Server database administrator
Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, Flashback, Grid Control, SQL Server
Database Administrator Key Skills and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Software Development, Production Support, Systems Administrators
- Technical expert for Oracle and SQL Server database environment.
- Support mission critical Oracle database applications - replication, backup, change requests, change validation, performance tuning, identifying bottlenecks.
- Support a large number of SQL Server databases
- Experience of migrating from SQL Server 2008 to 2012
- Manage incidents ensuring service is restored rapidly, conducting thorough root cause analysis and applying corrective measures appropriately
- Able to promote best practice in terms of database technology.
Oracle skills
- Manage Oracle 11g/12c databases.
- Knowledge of Backup and Recovery using RMAN.
- Make use of High Availability and Disaster Recovery components; Oracle GRID Infrastructure/Clusterware, Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard.
- Maintenance and support of databases
- Apply security patches
- Understand the Oracle support mechanisms; My Oracle Support, raise service requests.
SQL Server skill
- Monitoring of SQL Server databases
- Housekeeping of SQL Server databases
Other skills required
- Experience of Unix/Linux operating systems for Oracle
- Shell/bash/batch scripting
- Experience of Windows Server 2012 for ongoing SQL Server migration project
- Work closely with software development teams and systems administrators
- Install patches from Suppliers
- Good customer practice skills
