Description

We are currently recruiting for Commercial/Procurement Lawyer to work in Salford.

This is a contract role paying £22p/h PAYE and is initially a 6 months contract.

In recent years, commercial work has expanded massively for a number of reasons, including government policy driving more outsourcing and innovative private sector involvement in government operations, as well as large-scale transformational change and pressure to drive value from existing contracts. Our commercial lawyers advise on some of the most high profile, high value and complex public procurement and contractual commercial legal issues within government. Our Programmes team (C6) provides legal support to largest transformation programmes including 'Columbus' (IT) and Ruby (Estates); and our Corporate team (C4) advises on the department's day to day IT, Estates, banking and general commercial operations, including all aspects of public procurement, commercial contracts, intellectual property rights, state aid, contract and supplier management, and disputes resolution.
Each team has lawyers based in both Manchester and London, is led by two G6 team leaders, and is overseen by a Deputy Director.

Essential Experience:

We are looking for intellectually capable, highly motivated lawyers to join our dynamic and high-performing team, who can demonstrate as part of their application and interview evidence of the following essential competencies:

* Experience of advising on commercial contracts and disputes, and of applying procurement regulations to complex procurements
* Seeing the Bigger Picture, including the understanding the context in which legal advice is sought and identifying wider public law and policy connections

* Providing comprehensive, risk-based advice that effectively addresses client needs

* Contributing to the work of the wider Office, Department and GLS
* PDQ
* Experience of advising clients on the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 is essential
* Applicants will also be required to demonstrate good self-awareness and a commitment to using feedback to learn and develop as a professional, and will also need good IT (word/excel/outlook) and organisational skills

Security Clearance Level Required: Disclosure Scotland
