We're a New York City-based web agency that develops online solutions for businesses. We assist our clients in building goal-oriented websites and ensure that they run smoothly and effectively. We’re passionate about design and development, and are driven by a genuine commitment to providing top-notch service and support.
Many of our product goals are centered around our relationship with Automattic, the company responsible for creating WordPress.com. We currently sell premium themes on the platform and have a large backlog of theme designs that we're trying to finish developing and shipping out for both .com and WordPress.org customers. Given these aims, we're looking for someone who can, without heavy assistance, develop a fully functional, secure, performant, and top-notch WordPress theme from the design PSDs that we've already brainstormed and created. We also, when it comes up, develop custom themes within our digital agency wing of the company.
Our CTO (Philip Arthur Moore—you'll be directly reporting to him) is one of the original creators of _s, the most prominent starter theme for WordPress, and your familiarity with _s, theming best practices, the WordPress Customizer, and GitHub is a must. Examples of themes you've fully built out and launched on WordPress.org or privately for clients will be required for viewing before an interview takes place; they will take place both through chat and a phone call. We believe that WordPress themes are as much about code as they are about the philosophy around the code, and understanding your philosophical approach to theme development is as important as the results that you deliver.
Front-end design skills, outside of an intimate understanding of CSS and emerging CSS practices, are not necessary. We're not looking for a designer but someone who's able to take someone's designs and beautifully translate them into a WordPress theme.

Familiarity with Grunt, automation via Travis CI/Magnum CI, VVV, the VIP Scanner and Theme Check plugin, and Subtitles are big plusses.
We're a 100% location-independent company and care not about where you are but whether or not you can deliver. Communication is our oxygen and without it nothing else matters. We rely on Basecamp and Slack for keeping all things afloat and operate primarily during NYC and Asia-based timezones.
