Contract Senior Linux Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure - Max. £400 per day - Egham, Surrey
Salary: Maximum £400 per day
THE COMPANY AND SITUATION OVERVIEW:
A hugely successful and very fast-growing multi-billion dollar ITSM company requires an individual with strong Linux skills to help them architect, build and manage the global cloud infrastructure that runs their SaaS product.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
This is a role for career Linux people, those who are Linux through-and-through, passionate advocates of Linux and very non-Microsoft! This team doesn't have any Windows stuff at all and have told me if you have any Microsoft certifications then you're probably not right for them, but if you have a Red Hat Certification (RHCA) then you're almost guaranteed an interview!
Consequently, the experience they are seeking is as follows:
Essential:
- A minimum of 5 years of commercial experience with Linux (RedHat and/or CentOS)
- Strong experience with service troubleshooting, covering web Front End, Systems, Databases and Networks
- Previous direct exposure to engineering and architecting fundamental Internet services (DNS, Mail, Apache/Tomcat) with a good understanding of the LAMP stack (or similar stack - it doesn't HAVE to be PHP)
- Familiarity with relational databases: Any of MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Tungsten, Postgresql or similar
- Scripting abilities in at least one of: Perl, Python, Bash, C/C++, Java/JavaScript
- Understanding of ITIL v3 framework, or any other ticketing system and how it applies to incident, problem and change
- At least some experience of managed or hosted services; eg IAAS, PAAS, SAAS, etc.
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics OR equivalent experience
- Good communication skills and work well in a collaborative team environment

THE JOB:
This is not a reactive support job, this is all about proactive engineering, designing, building and architecting. In this role, you would be a key member of the Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team, responsible for architecting, building and managing the global cloud infrastructure that runs their SaaS product. This is an opportunity to be at the core of building a Cloud SaaS platform that will scale to millions of users. This team architects, builds and operates the server infrastructure that runs their SaaS platform at scale and with high availability, working closely with engineers and developers across the company.
