Description

Sopra Steria Recruitment is working in partnership with a major public sector client in the UK. We are currently recruiting a Corporate Finance Manager to be based in London/Birmingham for an initial period of 6 months with possible extension.

Job Title: Corporate Finance Manager

Duration: London/Birmingham with some travel

Location: 6 months

Skills/Competencies/Experience

  • A well rounded qualified Accountant with finance, governance & commercial experience. An ability to communicate and disseminate information to a range of people in an appropriate manner is also essential for this role.
  • Other skills include:

  • Excellent Excel modelling skills;
  • being able to lead, produce, review & communicate complex investment cases & supporting models/documentation to an appropriate standard.
  • leading teams of external professionals and third parties in the production of business cases and assessing complex financial issues.
  • Being able to identify key drivers, Risks and suitable KPIs with provision of risk mitigation options & scenario planning where appropriate.
  • Commercial finance experience. Able to think laterally and identify different delivery models to achieve objectives. A sound understanding of project finance (PFI) including the benefits this can bring a project as well at the implications for management. Be competent in the application of VfM tests when appraising projects including the consideration of different funding sources.
  • Experience of managing a team together with developing & mentoring other team members.
  • Able to identify which information requires communication, to whom, by when and the best ways of achieving the communication. Understands the impact & effect of the information when delivered both successfully and unsuccessfully and ensuring that planning, delivery and follow up when required are achieved. Able to deliver finance information in an appropriate manner, upskilling the audience where required to be able to understand the information and use it appropriately.
  • Experienced negotiating at senior levels, both internally and with third parties. Able to negotiate and influence successfully with groups and individuals using appropriate tools and techniques to achieve the desired outcome whilst maintaining an ongoing relationship where required. Be a sounding board for others involved in negotiations and be able to take both a short and long term view to negotiations and relationships.
  • Understands, has successfully utilised and can give valuable educational/instructional advice on larger projects & continual improvement techniques.
  • Project management knowledge to the equivalent of a PRINCE2 Practitioner. Has project managed a project successfully leading a discrete project from inception to delivery. Understands the relationship of a project to a portfolio or programme of work and is able to perform a post project review to ensure that learnings are documented, measured and communicated for future guidance.
  • Map value streams; create a clear simple picture of how value is added to a product/service.
  • Use communication and influencing style that matches and adapts to the circumstances and audience - logical persuasion, consensus building, visioning and using power in both written and verbal format.
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills; able to generate and understand complex financial models.
  • Experienced in the presentation of investigations and clear documentation into the risks, volatility and sensitivities of key cost behaviours presented alongside the forecast and in year reporting
  • Drive process improvement by fundamental review, engaging with stakeholders and negotiating solutions. Champion the production of high quality business cases using the updated company formats, and their publication.
  • Implement a cycle of continuous improvement by influencing and negotiating production of enhanced content by data owners, and obtaining and taking account of feedback from users of performance reports.
  • Understand systems and processes to produce relevant financial information on request.
  • Experience of dealing with a range of taxation matters.
  • Understands the importance of relationships, ability to build relationships and identify and influence the key ones.
