Project/Role Summary:
IT Wide Monitoring Project Execution relies on the creation of new monitoring baselines via a combination of direct cutovers from legacy platforms as well as partnering with various product management, engineering and operations teams to develop net new monitoring baselines for our environment. In addition, the role will work with our operations staff to mature the baseline governance process and ensure strategic platforms and ITIL processes are leveraged to control changes.
Tasks:
- Lead and support the existing platform (BMC Patrol) and a new role out of a new platform (Bosun) whilst monitoring.
- Become a SME on the existing baselines in place for the current monitoring platform.
- Broker agreements between various stakeholders on the ownership of the baselines and mature current processes to support a more agile updates.
- Be the accountable owner and subject matter expert of the new monitoring baselines for 'in scope' technologies including Windows, Unix, SQL, Sybase and Oracle.
- Learn and document best practices for the creation of baselines.
- Challenge project & engineering teams to deliver functionality which will enable our operations teams to better manage the environment and reduce unactionable alerts.
- Implement new monitoring baselines on the new IT Wide Monitoring Platform.
- Perform knowledge sharing sessions and trainings with existing support personnel enabling them to carry on with baseline creation & maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Overall 10+ years w/ Monitoring Technologies & baseline implementations including previous exposure to BMC & Open Stack technologies.
- Experience in BMC Performance Manager/Patrol, especially BMC Patrol experience and event management.
- Bosun technology experience is advantageous OR Strong Perl / Unix scripting experience.
- Must be experienced in giving presentations of the summary of changes concerning the project work status at senior stake management level.
- Atleast basic Unix/Linux and SQL knowledge.
- One or more of the following scripting skills: Python, Ruby, Perl, Go, Shell (Bash, CSH, KSH, BSH).
- Familiarity with GIT & SVN (source code repository)
- Self-starter and one who embraces change quickly.
- Experience with Enterprise Operational Tools/Processes (Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, Knowledge Management etc).
- Experience in prioritizing a complex and diverse book of work juggling the enablement of project deliverables while supporting daily operational stability.
- In-depth understanding of the ITIL framework.
- Broad understanding of IT Infrastructure (including hosting, application & database systems, application monitoring, CMDB repositories, ticketing systems, systems orchestration and automation).
- Proven managerial track record of leading diverse & regionally distributed multicultural IT teams.
- Experience in building effective relationship with both product and outsourcing vendors.
- Complex problem solving skills.
- Advanced English language skills (written & verbal) with a great degree of confidence in presenting recommendations both for peer groups as well as management.
- Ability to convey complex technical information to engineers, product managers and senior managers as well as non-technical customers and to articulate a business case to influence and drive strategy.
- Consistent enthusiasm fueled by a desire to be best in class.
Desirable:
- Certification in ITIL and/or any related service management technical qualifications.
- Understanding of IT environments in financial institutions.
- Proven track record in influencing and driving technology change programs.
- Previous experience of infrastructure support in large (Financial Services) enterprise IT environment.
