Oracle Installation/System Administrator

Columbia, SC

1 year+ contract with annual extensions & option to hire

Due to security clearance eligibility requirements, only US citizens can be considered for this role. The clearance can be obtained after an offer of employment is made and is not a prerequisite.

Manager Notes:

  • Looking for a true Oracle System Administrator, not an Oracle DBA or an Oracle Applications DBA.
  • Must have true Oracle installation experience.

Required Skills:

  • This candidate will be responsible for Oracle 11G systems administration on Linux installing and configuring software.
  • Oracle 11G systems administration experience.
  • Linux installation and configuration experience.
  • Linux experience (RHEL or SUSE) related to software installation and configuration.
  • Performance and Tuning of Oracle databases.
  • RAC (Real Application Clusters) is a big plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Oracle on z/Linux installation and configuration.
  • Patching and upgrading Oracle to meet SI2 security requirements.
  • Performance and Tuning of Oracle databases.
  • Linux experience (RHEL or SUSE) related to software installation and configuration.
  • Configuration and tuning of a Linux OS for optimal database utilization
  • Diagnose, isolate, and debug software installation and performance problems. Identify issues that require vendor resolution and proper vendor engagement processes.

Systems: Oracle support

Primary Working Relationships: Oracle DBAs and customer for coordination of upgrades, installations, and patching.

Working Hours/Conditions: Fulltime. After hours on-call support required.

Breakdown of Responsibilities:

  • 40% -- Research and analyze systems software problems and implement workable solutions or escalate as appropriate.
  • 40% -- Install, test, and maintain systems software including installing updates, upgrades, and patches, initiating tests of system programs and observing results to detect errors or work stoppage, and modifying code to correct errors.
  • 10% -- Assist in internal and external audits being performed across multiple lines of business for multiple platforms.
  • 5% -- Participate in planning and execution of disaster recovery procedures.
  • 5% -- Cross train in all areas of systems programming in order to efficiently perform on-call rotation.

Behavior Characteristics: Self-motivated individual, ability to work with minimal guidance.

Education/Equivalency:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IS, or job related degree or 4 years of combined education and work experience or a total of 8 years of related work experience.
