Description

My client, a leading Operator within the renewable energies market, is currently looking to recruit an experienced Operations Manager for their latest offshore wind farm.

The Operations Manager will establish a site Operations team of 25 personnel along with contractors/sub-contractors of between 60 to 100+ at peak outage periods with considerable HSE risks to be managed.

Role:

The Operations Manager will be responsible for enacting and managing all site related Maintenance contracts comprising WTG, Balance of Plant and facilities which, will require negotiation when renewals are due. The Operations Manager will also have responsibility for the safety and security of the site facilities comprising Control Centre/Offices/Warehouse/car park space and laydown areas.

The Operations Manager will responsible for:
  • Taking an active role in O&M readiness and project delivery
  • Creating and monitoring a department strategy
  • Resource plan, including succession planning for department
  • Lead Recruitment of site Operations team in line with project approval
  • Establishing a Safety First and commercial focused environment during commissioning and project phase
  • Holding appropriate HSE and management meetings with O&M Team/Project and Contractor teams
  • Working with Commissioning Manager to implement commissioning strategy that utilises O&M team in an appropriate manner
  • Manage team competencies, training requirements and appraisals
  • Monitoring and detailing work scope for team members where appropriate, including the sharing of resources into commissioning phase
  • Managing safety from the system by application of the projects safety rules to enable safe operation of the wind farm
  • Utilising O&M team to complete/witness all testing where an Owner requirement
  • Working with Project Manager and Package Managers to close out all contract package work
  • Working for the OSM Delivery Manager Ports and Facilities, and others, to deliver Operations facilities including control room, helicopter facility and pontoon facility
  • Implement O&M team as per O&M requirements including managed transition from Commissioning duties
  • Development of all the O&M Safety and other required Management Systems, including drafting, reviewing and auditing as appropriate.
  • Development of working relationship with main O&M contractors, including regular meetings.
  • Preparing appropriate reports and obtaining buy in from management and wider company
  • Preparing a takeover focused audit plan and subsequent participation in formal and informal audits
  • Managing OPEX budget and participating in the forecasting of any CAPEX requirements
  • Preparing CAPEX scheme papers where appropriate
  • Ensuring a lesson learnt feedback loop to other departments at all times
Knowledge and Skills:
Essential:
  • HNC with relevant experience
  • Significant, demonstrable team leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrable, in-depth level of competency in negotiation technique and contract management.
  • Good knowledge of current UK health, safety and environmental legislation
  • Ability to identify a problem or conflict, identify potential solutions and analyse the solutions leading to a recommendation for the optimum solution.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have an eye for detail and good reporting skills.
  • Be results-oriented, able to meet tight deadlines and produce clear and concise information/options/decisions to senior management.
  • Willing to participate in call out/on call rota
Desirable:
  • Proven track record within the Electricity supply industry
  • Offshore Wind Experience
  • Knowledge of the Construction Design & Management Regulation 2015
