Vacancy Overview: Investment Control Analyst
My client a leading energy provider is looking to engage a Senior Investment Control Analyst on an initial 12 month contract at their location in Croydon. In your role you will provide assistance as my client seeks to realise the value of their investments so that they can meet business objectives and drive sustainable framework for investment management across the Company. As Senior Investment Control Analyst you will make an important contribution to maximising ongoing control of investments by providing accurate and robust analysis and insights on the performance of major projects to executive level stakeholders at Company and Group level.

Principal Accountabilities: Investment Control Analyst

  • Work with projects in advance of gate approvals at PIC to offer support and guidance regarding development of investment case and presentation of materials to PIC.
  • Participate and when required autonomously conduct project reviews in advance of PIC meetings to ensure robust PIC materials are presented with the required level of information including key project concerns, risks, accurate assumptions for project cost and benefits, ensuring key project challenges are highlighted.
  • Review the project documentation and discuss with the project team to ensure the "Set up for Success" criteria are met.
  • Provide project summary papers which, following review and input from the Investment Control Manager, will be shared with senior management to help facilitate decision making and approval around the project.
  • Organise the Project Performance Reporting process to ensure timely submission of reports with adequate review and challenge.
  • Produce insightful, concise and value adding reporting to senior management.
  • Undertake or participate in ad-hoc reviews of project activity and provide ad hoc or on-going assistance to projects as directed by management.
  • Provide operational and technical support to business unit project personnel in respect of the Project Performance Reporting tool.
  • Be a subject matter expert, build an extensive network and be the first point of contact for certain business unit projects and assigned project managers.
  • Lead monthly End to End Project Performance reviews on assigned business unit projects (From organising and chairing meetings to completion of the monthly dashboard report to PIC.

Nature and Scope: Senior Investment Control Analyst As Senior Investment Control Analyst you will be expected to autonomously manage your time and make decisions as to where to focus your activity ensuring projects with a higher level of risk are concentrated on. This could cover projects from across the business: Generation asset acquisition and construction (eg Windfarms), additional investment in existing assets, new business opportunities (eg. Energy Services), IT development and significant business change projects.

You will build relationships with project personnel and other key stakeholders at various levels including:

  • Project Team Members, Managers, Directors and Sponsors,
  • Business Unit Senior Management,
  • Key support function personnel (Finance, Supply Chain, Legal etc).

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified accountant with experience in financial accounting, performance management, business finance and project management.
  • Understanding of numerical investment appraisal techniques and confident in analysing and presenting financial information.
  • Highly analytical with excellent management reporting skills.
  • Excellent written presentational skills; has the ability extract and summarise key management insights from large sets of data.
  • Excellent communication and people skills, relationship building and influencing work style, including experience of indirectly managing stakeholders and teams.
  • Proven history of working in a pressured environment with ability of working to time and Senior Executive deadlines to deliver results.
  • Able to positively and confidently engage people and develop strong relationships at all levels.
  • Able to create a strong network of contacts that can be drawn upon to source information and ideas and to challenge and sense-check work carried out by the project teams.
  • Ability to forward plan in a proactive way and anticipate future requirements
  • Ability to identify dependencies and think laterally/using reasoning that is not immediately obvious
  • Proactive and able to operate independently and confident of exercising own judgement.
  • Customer focused and service driven; Must be an engaging and persuasive communicator at the most senior level and able to develop strong relationships, including with senior management.
  • Able to deal with and manage sensitive information about people, projects and the Company.
  • Strong numerical and analytical experience
  • Excellent management reporting skills supported by strong Excel skills.
