Senior Buyer - 3 Month Contract - Immediate Start

We are recruiting for one of the nation's largest commercial companies who provide an extensive range of construction services including construction management, general contracting, design and build and preconstruction.

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, proactive Senior Buyer to join our Rail Procurement team in Hither Green on a 3 month contract. As the successful candidate you will work closely with Delivery Units and project staff to meet the procurement schedule for projects in accordance to procurement policies and processes

Key Responsibilities;

  • ensure project requirements are met and best value deals are negotiated to meet and exceed targets
  • manage total annual spend typically up to approximately £10million per annum and higher risk and complexity
  • negotiate agreements for project that support on time delivery
  • deliver elements of project procurement schedules as per agreed plan with DU through negotiated deals
  • manage team meetings/project timescales for source team activities, including communication to stakeholders and decision makers
  • follow procurement processes to place order or oversee buyers placing orders under supervision including:
  • managing Tender/ITT process
  • application of legal terms and conditions
  • evaluation of supplier bids
  • processing via relevant ERP system (eg COINS, Oracle, MCS)
  • reporting Savings
  • apply legal T&C's and agrees simple changes as appropriate within scope agreed by legal/project partners
  • manage supplier performance for own projects/contracts to include managing poor performance and disputes - Escalating any on-going problems
  • centrally records savings for orders placed after agreement with finance
  • ad-hoc duties as and when required from management

You

  • procurement experience at senior level in a large organisation
  • experience negotiating complex deals of high value/business impact, with a track record of making savings
  • negotiation skills - Advanced
  • basic category management knowledge
  • commercial awareness
  • ability to set up a source team and run successful tenders/ITTs
  • good understanding of legal frameworks and contract law
  • held senior level procurement role in Rail, construction, or manufacturing/industrial environment - Desirable
