  • This position is responsible for applying the methods & techniques required to complete precision electromechanical assemblies; preparation of prototype level assembly & test instructions; generation of test setups; conducts performance & hardware development testing; observes & investigates new product assembly problems affecting assembly completion as well as functional performance; summarizes & assists cognizant engineering personnel in performance diagnosis; provides inputs for concurrent engineering & value engineering of various Moog products

Essential job functions:

  • The incumbent operates under minimal direction performing complex assembly, testing & diagnostic analysis on a wide variety of hardware including, but not limited to, electrohydraulic servovalves & servoactuators, electropneurnatic & electromechanical actuation control systems, fuel control valves, advanced composite materials, system and support electronics, etc.,
  • The incumbent must understand the nature and principle of operation of the related hardware.,
  • The incumbent must understand the function of various components, their critical features and their relationships to each other.
  • Mechanical assembly tasks include the buildup of close tolerance assemblies, the integration of precision components & the fabrication/installation of electrical assemblies. The incumbent must have substantial experience in a variety of specialized assembly, measurement & test techniques to independently establish the most suitable procedures. The incumbent must select & frequently create the required tools, fixtures and test setups.,
  • Test tasks include conducting development and acceptance tests, as well as preparation of data summaries and test reports for internal use and customer transmittal. Test setups include utilization of standard test equipment, available laboratory equipment/instrumentation and specialized equipment.,
  • The incumbent regularly assists cognizant engineering personnel in diagnosing performance problems and in defining design modifications or rework of parts. This requires intimate involvement of the incumbent with the operation and expected performance of the device.

Required skills:

  • Must understand the purpose and principle of operation of the hardware under evaluation, including the function of various components, their critical features and their relationships to each other.
  • Must have substantial experience in a variety of specialized assembly, measurement and test techniques to independently establish the most suitable procedures.
  • Working from engineering drawings and informal instructions, develops and applies the methods and tooling required to complete precision assemblies. Uses related mechanical inspection equipment and hydraulic/pneumatic/electrical/electromechanical test equipment to make adjustments and verify final configuration characteristics.
  • Prepares development level assembly and test instructions. Records and maintains unit folder data.
  • The position regularly assists Engineers in diagnosing performance problems and in defining the required design modifications or rework of parts. This requires intimate involvement of the incumbent with the operation and expected performance of the related hardware, including the investigation of build problems that affect final assembly and/or functional performance.
  • Assists Engineers in the preparation of formal documentation.
  • Assists the Department Manager in training new department personnel, as well as Production Assembly & Test personnel (when applicable) to ensure smooth transition of a new product into production.

Scope:

  • Shares development responsibility with cognizant engineering personnel on products expected to allow Moog to enhance its position in the marketplace.

Experience/Education:

  • This position requires a level of a high mechanical aptitude and a level of technical ability sufficient to understand the design and operating principles of hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic & electromechanical products processed at Moog. The incumbent shall have a: 2 year. Associates Engineering Degree or equivalent engineering training along with a minimum of 5 years related work experience
