Makerspace Engineering Manager - CAD/CAM/3D Printing/CNC/Laser Cutting - Contract - Edinburgh

THE COMPANY

Our Edinburgh based client are in the process of creating and providing a MakerSpace facility, specifically designed to provide a high quality, high technology, low quantity prototyping service to enable advances in research as well as providing customers with access to a wide range of content.

THE ROLE

Spring Technology are currently recruiting for a MakerSpace Manager for an initial 3 month contract based in Edinburgh or surrounding areas. The successful candidate will have an important role in helping to create, plan, support and manage the initial stages of the project to get it up on its feet. This will include day to management within the space, offering support to users. You will also be required to take control of event planning and management including workshops, as well as take responsibility for health and safety and ensuring the space is compliant with legal, insurance and guideline policies.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* Good understanding of CAD and CAM
* Good knowledge of rapid prototyping equipment (3D printers, Laser cutters, CNC Routers)
* Educated to first degree level, preferably in an engineering discipline
* Strong experience in commercial relations and growing business relationships
* Excellent knowledge of electronics
* Strong communication skills and attention to providing a great service
* Ability to communicate complex information clearly

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

* Previous experience of MakerSpace environments
* Excellent technical knowledge of digital manufacturing equipment and processes ie Laser cutting, CNC routing, milling etc
* Excellent technical knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD drawing packages, preferably open source
* Product design experience
* First air certification
* Experience in risk assessment
