Description

A subsea engineering organisation is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with deepsea burial and cable experience. This role will be reporting into the Route Engineering Manager, and based in the client's Headquarters in South East / East UK. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be full time on a permanent contract.



The purpose of this role is to specify and use offshore geotechnical and geophysical marine survey data to assess cable burial potential for varied offshore cable projects using the client's wide range of cable burial tools.



Duties



- Combine a theoretical and practical knowledge of geophysical acquisition in order to specify suitable geotechnical components of an offshore cable route survey in order to determine likely cable burial by various burial tools (cable ploughs, trenching ROVs, vertical injector)

- Undertake cable burial assessments for submarine telecommunication and power cables, using sound geotechnical theory to determine the burial depths achievable.

- Prepare pre-tender and full cable burial assessment reports based on the geotechnical survey results for both telecoms and power cable projects

- Undertake and maintain a program of back analysis of cable burial performance with a view to enhancing future burial assessments

- Provision of cost estimates for geotechnical survey related activities

- Prepare content for Desk Top Studies associated with geotechnical knowledge

- Explore innovative cable burial ideas using knowledge of developments within the offshore industry

- Present internally and externally, on work undertaken in this role

- Assist with other route engineering and cable route survey duties as required

- International travel is expected



Experience / Qualifications



Required:



- Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in a Geoscience subject

- Experience in marine geophysical acquisition

- Experience of managing offshore geotechnical acquisition and laboratory testing

- Excellent technical report writing skills

- Computer literate, with experience of technical software programmes

- An attention to detail and a logical approach

- Experience of using GIS (Intergraph GeoMedia/ESRI) software or equivalent



Ideal:



- Technical understanding of offshore installation processes, such as, permits and consents, survey, landfall works, cable installation, cable storage facilities, and vessel operations

- Experience with cable or pipeline engineering or geophysical and geotechnical knowledge would be desirable

- Confident in taking a supportive technical role during the bidding process on an offshore cable installation project

- An industry recognised project management qualification; e.g., APM, PRINCE2
