This a great opportunity to work on content and large scale digital products used by millions of people every day. Our client, within the public sector is looking for a content designer, the overall goal is to make content for their services simpler and more action-focussed, always starting with user needs.
Responsibilities:
You'll be asked to work on a number of projects. Things you'll be doing include:
- Observing, working and analysing user needs
- identify user needs from existing content
- Transition phase: identify content gaps and overlaps based on user needs analysis
- identify the appropriate content format for a topic area, for example flat page, tool, service etc.
- write content plans that lay out how a topic area will be tackled
- write content based on user needs for web, mobile and services
- ensuring content is relevant to the audience, easily understood and SEO optimised
- explaining a user needs led approach to people who don't work in digital, for example healthcare professional who will fact check content
- analysing and incorporating feedback from user research
- working with designers, product managers and researchers to iterate products and content
- review and edit content to make sure the site remains accurate, current and optimised
- review the work of other content designers to make sure consistency and excellence is maintained across the site
Skill set required:
- work in an agile environment with rapidly changing deadlines, workloads and goals
- be able to judge a good/bad user need
- turn user needs into easy to understand content
- write with the user in mind
- take complex language and processes and make them simple to understand
- explain your decisions/edits clearly
Experience required:
- extensive experience of writing for the web, with proven ability of creating content that is accessible and usable
- exceptional skills in convincing people that user needs and a usable approach is the only way to present information
- proven experience in using metrics and user feedback to define/refine content
- proven experience of working within a web application development environment, proficient in writing Markdown, picture sourcing and editing
- experience in choosing the best format for displaying information to the user
- experience in working with content publishing systems
The Reward:
- Initial contract for 3 months
- Rate per day between £300- £400 - negotiable for exceptional candidates.
