Payload Systems Engineer - Belgium - Long term contract

My client a market leader within the space sector are looking to recruit a Payload Systems Engineer for a long term contract.

The role can be described as follows:

Its main responsibilities are:

  • To support in tendering ( RFI, RFQ) on Telecom satellite business
  • To contribute, within a system and satellite platform team, to a definition study of an advanced telecom payload
  • To specify payload components & evaluate payload equipment supplier's offers

Task Content

Your main job responsibilities will include:

  • Defining advanced payload architectures, eg RF, digital processing, active antennas, photonics....
  • Developing payload engineering and modelling capabilities to assess performance and feasibility of the solutions
  • Defining associated payload road maps, specifications and development needs
  • Participating to development/demonstration project build-up (including bids, partnership development, project implementation)
  • Interfacing with agencies, commercial customers, and suppliers for technology maturity survey
  • Interfacing with other customer Group departments such as Antennas, RF/processor, Telecom Systems, Marketing and Sales
  • This role could involve travel for business and working for a specific period abroad. Therefor the person must be able to travel accordingly.

While the position is based in Belgium, it will entail an initial period tenure as one of the key members of a twenty-person core project team based at German Headquarters. This team will carry out preliminary systems engineering tasks.

Profile

The ideal candidate will have a university degree in electrical engineering, with specialization in radio communications. The candidate must have acquired several year's professional experience in the field of satellite telecommunications payloads.

His/her core skills will include state-of-the-art payload architecture designs for solutions in satellites performing DTH, VSAT, Broadband Internet, Governmental communications missions principally at C, Ku, Ka band but potentially ranging from UHF to Q/V-bands.

Familiarity with the equipment accommodated within the payload is expected: TWT and SSP amplifiers, DTP/OBP repeaters with corresponding frequency converters and MLOs.

Knowledge of antenna systems would be an additional asset, with an emphasis on large deployable reflectors, steerable and beamforming antennas.

A team player, the person will be capable of autonomously carrying out tasks within his/her field of expertise, while being capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external partners. He or she must therefore have tact, sound judgment and excellent communications skills.

The candidate will be fluent in English, with a demonstrated capability for producing effective technical documents such as specifications, evaluation reports and meeting minutes. A working knowledge of German would be a plus.

Familiarity with the standard formal Space development process is assumed.

Besides technical proficiency, the candidate will be highly organized, with a taste for technical management involving the rigorous staging, management and following up of reviews.
