Description
Key Accountabilities
- Architect new solutions as a database developer, in a team, or in conjunction with external vendors
- Investigate and define user requirements, both internal and external, including those relating to data exchange with customers
- Determine and optimise database structures by analysing client operations, applications and programming
- Technical guidance for database structures and functional capabilities, security, back-up and recovery specifications
- Develop and implement database solutions based on industry best practice including schemas, tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, security and triggers
- Design, deployment, and tuning of Microsoft SQL Server databases
- Interface with users to understand database design and reporting requirements
- Develop the skills level of IT users to achieve most effective use of vendor and bespoke application software
- Carry out continual improvement of systems in order to identify possible enhancements and to improve the work process
- Production of technical documentation, diagrams and user guides
Required Knowledge and Experience
- BSc in Computer Science or equivalent or relevant industry experience and certification
- 5+ years' experience in Microsoft SQL Server database
- Expert-level database design and Datamodelling with Microsoft SQL Server
- Database architect experience of upgrading Microsoft SQL Server revisions
- Database schema creation and management skills to include the ability to translate a data model into a physical database implementation and to manage and develop that database once it has been implemented
- Demonstrated best-practise database design with data integrity and database security as the core foundation within a Microsoft SQL Server environment
- Strong T-SQL programming skills with a proven record of writing efficient fully optimized SQL
- Solid experience in custom ETL design, implementation and maintenance
- Experience of Business Intelligence System Reporting and Analysis design.
- Excellent documentation and written communications skills
- The person appointed must have excellent programming skills and commitment to quality principles throughout the development life cycle
Desired Knowledge and Experience
- Experience developing food industry related IT applications and databases;
- Demonstrated experience of data standardisation including knowledge of food coding and classification systems.
