WebSphere Engineer
For a client in Antwerp we are looking for a Software Configuration Engineer (WebSphere)
The client software is implemented with different technologies - RPG/C/Java on an IBMi platform (actual deployment environment being AIX and DB environment being DB2i), and Java EE on WebSphere App Server stack. These products are managed as a product suite (thus several products with a strict SDLC).
For this redevelopment, client uses several outsourcing partners in Asia, as well as internal development teams and contractors in Antwerp and Singapore.
Client wants to hire a configuration engineer to enforce the current Configuration Management team, that currently governs the packaging and delivery of products of the XX suite.
Role:
The engineer will perform execution tasks to support the Delivery Department and maintenance tasks as well as monitoring/analysis in relation to performance and stability.
Tasks:
- Provision environments for the different projects within the XX suite, on Infrastructure in Antwerp and subsequently Singapore
o Intake, Test, Integration
o Integration with the development setup of the outsourcing partners
- Streamline tooling with tools for the current XX Suite, which is governed by the Configuration Management Team.
- XX Infrastructure project - collaborate on the environments on the infrastructure in Singapore
Responsibilities:
- Analyses, logs, tracks and resolves complex software/hardware matters pertaining to Middleware infrastructure applications to meet business needs
- Performs maintenance and upgrades of existing Middleware systems in accordance with organizational standards to maintain operational stability of the system. Investigate and resolve matters of significance
- Ensures stable performance for Middleware infrastructure components, undertakes performance. Monitoring/analysis, identifies and resolves bottlenecks. (tuning of JVM and buffer pool tuning)
- Participates in a 24/7 on call support role
- Provides technical guidance in areas of expertise to less experienced team members.
Technical Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere applications server in a system administrator role.
- Proficient technical understanding of web and Application Server technologies required
- Core technical proficiencies will be: administration of IBM WebSphere Application Sever, IBM HTTP Server and other related technologies.
- Experience in working in a Unix environment
- Demonstrated understanding of Scripting and automation methodology as well as experience with Unix Shell and Scripting.
- Working knowledge of HTPP/S protocol standards
- Working knowledge of SSL and SSL certificate management
Broad Technical Background
Operating Systems - AIX/IBMi
Database knowledge of DB2 on LUW and IBMi environments (WAS/DB2 tuning)
JEE application Servers
Developer skills - familiarity with the Java programming language and common Java specifications
Scripting skills - eg. Jython
Automation tooling experience
Continuous Integration Tools (Jenkins)

Assist in knowledge transfer towards the current members of the Configuration Management team
Communication Skills
Experience:
2 to 3 years of experience in software product and/or multi-team application/Middleware configuration, (like a devops engineer)
