Contract Innovation Director R&D, Pharma, Engineering

10 month contract

up to £625PD

A contract Innovation Director is required to join a brand new operation centre for a company setting up a new base in Cardiff.

This role will direct the design and development of processes, instruments and equipment from the laboratory through Chemical Manufacturing processes; furthermore, this role will be responsible for identification, deployment and governance of chemical information technologies needed to support product development processes as well as directing and/or supporting technology initiatives and strategic vendor interactions.

This will be an excellent challenge which will also include managing equipment acquisition/validation, process development/validation and activities associated with R&D plant. The successful candidate will provide leadership and coordination to program and project managers who are responsible for developing and implementing information technology initiatives that support the strategic objectives of the Company.

The successful candidate will be joining a skilled and very dynamic team Experience is key here and this is definitely not the kind of company that will shoot down different ideas/ways of doing things.
The ideal candidate will have:

* MA or PhD in IT, Engineering or related fields.
* Experience with technology evaluation, deployment and project management
* 10 + years management experience in Chemical and/or Materials industry, preferably with some years' experience in Technical Development as well as managing Implementation of Chemical or Materials R&D Projects within these disciplines.
* IT and business knowledge to manage IT delivery processes end-to-end
* Demonstrated ability to lead within a Matrix organization and to manage multiple interfaces and stakeholders.
* Innovative, forward-thinking, scalable and sustainable vision, strategy, objectives and plans for the assigned network

Also, any experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, specifically in the Research and
Quality functional areas would be a big plus.

This is a 10 month project, and though responsibilities will be varied they will include:

* IT Resources & Project Management
* Organize, Track, Coordinate, and Report on IT project activity, progress and resources assigned to key program/projects.
* Recommend/lead efforts to streamline the IT PMO processes and establish best practices.
* Provide project management expertise to the team to ensure delivery of project services.
* Prepare senior management presentations and other communications.
* Ensure that accurate system records and reports are maintained
* Analyze program/project data to produce management information and identify and deliver continual improvement.

Another large part of the role will be R&D Unit Setup which will include:

* Overseeing schedules, supplies, materials, equipment and manpower requirements in the pilot plant, and recommend programs to maximize project success, improve productivity, quality, and efficiency of the R&D plant operations.
* Provide functional leadership for all technology transfer related projects to assure timely scale-up and launch of new products.
* Set up and maintain tracking system for each product defining critical process parameters.
* Responsible for writing technical summaries and process development/validation reports, author/review/approve compliant documentations (SOPs, manufacturing batch records and validation protocols).
* Develops and implements equipment installation/operation/performance qualifications activities in the pilot plant.
* Ensure budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements
* Ensure staff members are appropriately trained and training records are maintained at current required levels
* Influence product formulation/process to optimize use of facility equipment
* Technical Skills - Assesses own strengths and weaknesses; Pursues training and development opportunities; Shares expertise with others.
