Our exclusive client, a large utilities company in the UK is looking for an enthusiastic and hands on Mechancal Supervisor to support the overall operations within the Bacton site.

Job Purpose:

To provide first line leadership and supervision of resources associated with the maintenance, operation and emergency response to all Compressor, Pipelines and AGI assets within a geographic zone of the national transmission system. (The Operations Supervisor role will be defined as being either Compressors or Pipelines due to the specific competencies required for the different asset types.)

Experience Required:

  • Good understanding of appropriate legislative requirements, company standards and instructions
  • Good understanding of the operation and maintenance of high pressure gas transmission pipeline systems and above ground installations, associated plant & equipment, fault diagnosis and rectification (Pipelines)
  • Good understanding of the operation and maintenance of aero-derivative or electrically driven machinery trains, associated compressor station and terminal plant & equipment, fault diagnosis and rectification (Compressors)
  • Detailed understanding of the Safe Control of Operations procedures and Authorised as Authorising Engineer within SCO/91 &/94, and EL/96 for all work types, and undertakes role of Job Owner
  • Assessed competent against Safety & Technical Competency Framework for role
  • Strong leadership, influencing, customer orientation and communication skills, providing the ability to promote team working and harmonious working between direct staff, project teams and contractors at all levels
  • Based on experience, post holders will normally progress from a Technician discipline of Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation or Pipelines

Key Tasks:

  • Provide effective supervision and management of work planning and delivery of maintenance, defect, breakdown and operational activities, driving performance excellence within team to optimise work efficiencies and maximise asset and plant availability and reliability
  • Manage the 'safe setting to work' of all work activities in accordance with the safe control of operations procedures. Drive a team culture of safe working and safety compliance in all work activities with National Grid Policies and Procedures, authorising permission documents, undertaking incident investigations and safety/technical inspections on work undertake.
  • Authorises permission documents within SCO/91 &/94, and EL/96 for all work types, and undertakes role of 'Job Owner'
  • Support the construction and commissioning of new assets onto the system with Capital Delivery in accordance with agreed policies & quality standards, and identify the requirement to replace/upgrade existing plant and equipment including the preparation of business cases, initiation of design and provision of technical support within competency as required
  • Ensure that emergency, security, safety, operational and environmental plans and procedures are developed, authorised, reviewed and tested on a regular basis including the onsite and offsite emergency plans. Undertake the roles of incident controller and site main controller during planned and emergency situations in accordance with the on and off site emergency plans, monitoring and control of site security operations, and participation in duty standby rota and occasionally shift working arrangements
  • Manage allocated resources to produce cost effective, customer focused and efficient service within budget and delegation of authority, assisting with the indirect control of various projects in order that timescales and budgeted costs are met
  • Ensure that the high pressure pipeline system is protected, including the monitoring of third party work, aerial sighting response, in-line inspection programme, and the allocation, planning and authorisation of routine and non routine procedures
  • Manage and supervise multi-disciplined site team, undertake competency reviews, develop talent and drive value through staff engagement, holding people to account through performance management and managing sickness/absence, in accordance with HR policies and procedures
  • Act as the company representative in dealings with external regulators/agencies ensuring that GTAM remains compliant with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements providing a trusted operator assurance, including the management of all 'site occupier' duties to the relevant standards
  • Undertake installation, inspection, commissioning, operation, repair, maintenance and emergency response activities associated with Terminal, Compressor Station and Pipeline and AGI systems and assets in accordance with relevant policies and procedures, delivering performance excellence within relevant discipline to optimise work effectiveness and efficiencies, maximising asset and plant availability and reliability.
