Research Engineer

Osterley based

£400 p/d Max Pay

Initial 3 month contract

We are currently on the hunt for a Research Engineer to use antenna simulation tools to design PCB and discrete antennas and arrays. Take ownership of prototype hardware aspects of RF research project. Build an antenna array prototype consists of 16 receive antennas (horizontal section of the T) and 4 transmit antennas (vertical section of the T); the antennas are log-periodic with 6dBi gain. This multiple-transmit multiple-receive architecture is equivalent to a 64-element antenna array.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, with educational focus on RF communications and wifi technologies.
  • Ability to provide a technical review to customers to explain all aspects of design and equipment components.
  • Strong working knowledge with RF Data collection and analysis tools.
  • Proven ability to work proactively as a team to meet customer expectations.
  • Create system equipment and material list.
  • Technical knowledge (variety of principles and techniques) of Radio Frequency technologies including ability to understand and interpret propagation models
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record in working with real-world engineering constraints
  • Strong antenna and wireless debug skills and general problem solving.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision to conclusion of assigned task
  • Self-starter able to work under aggressive project schedules.
  • Ability to perform field work at indoor/outdoor venues.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Skills

  • Experience in Computer Simulation Technology (MATLAB) antenna simulations
  • Experience with PCB and/or bent-metal antennas
  • Experience in antenna design
  • Hands on experience and capability, proficiency with tools, ability to solder and build breadboards a must.
  • Experience in WiFi bands (2 - 6GHz)
  • Experience with GPIO drivers programming
  • Basic knowledge with Linux, GPU, C and C++ programming
  • Experience with Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Anechoic Chambers
  • Experience in prototyping antennas and characterizing antenna pattern behaviors
  • MS degree -OR- BS degree
  • Typically five or more (5+) years of industry related experience in the architecture and design of RF solution, RF antenna array, I/O processing drivers, USRP Hardware Driver
  • Experience in higher frequency antennas design
