Geotechnical Engineer

Brief Overview

We are currently looking to recruit a Geotechnical Engineer with experience of the design of foundations, retaining walls and other geotechnical structures, to provide maternity cover during 2018.

The successful candidate will have a degree in civil engineering or similar and a second degree in geotechnics or foundation engineering. Some skills and background in the assessment of contaminated land would also be an advantage.

Role

The role is a temporary position covering maternity leave and is expected to be for a duration of approximately 12 months.

The successful candidate will provide design support to our structural, rail and highways department and will report to a senior geotechnical engineer.

The work will include:

  • Organisation and supervision of site investigations.
  • Production of clear reports and calculations.
  • The use of geotechnical software.
  • Control of budgets.
  • Analysis of data.

Requirements and skills

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • First degree in civil engineering or similar and a second degree in geotechnics or foundation engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working in a consultancy.
  • Ability to design pad and piled foundations.
  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheets and SLOPE, PILE and PDisp or similar.
  • The ability to deliver desk study and interpretative reports and reports to HA standards.
  • The ability to guide technicians and graduates to produce designs and reports to budget.
  • Proven good communication skills both verbal and written.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

  • Geoenvironmental skills would be desirable - including the production of reports to CLR11 and the use of CONSIM.
