JOB SUMMARY:
My client is implementing an AMI system to install Smart Meters throughout its service territory. The SQL Server Database Expert/DBA position will provide technical oversight for all AMI SQL Server database needs. This resource will model data structures, develop implementation packages for these structures and optimize database performance. The expectation is that the resource works with all elements of the Nicor AMI team to support transactional database, analytical database and reporting requirements. The resource will be part of the Database team, but be assigned Full time to the AMI project within the Business Intelligence workstream.
SKILLS:
Ability to Model Database Tables and Associated Relationships
Ability to build SQL Server Packages (ddl, etc.) to build tables and structures in allocated Servers/databases
Ability to optimize Database configuration for AMI team
Ability to optimize Database table structure for optimal performance
Ability to optimize SQL Server queries for optimal performance
Ability to model databases and tables for transactional and analytical (star-schema) purposes
Experience with SQL Server Suite
Experience was SSAS
Experience with ETL jobs within the SQL Server Suite
Good ability to translate requirements into optimal database structures, entities, and fields
Experience with Big Data - 57M Records Per Day, 21B Records Per Year
Experience with Enterprise Level Databases and Environments
Database Application Development Experience
Experience in Utilities, Preferably Gas
Experience in AMI (Smart Meter), Preferably Gas

What does the day to day look like?
Attend requirements sessions, attend design sessions, develop data models, hand-off database implementation structures to internal teams, optimize performance, support test efforts, provide technical guidance in the team. Assisting the project team with database focused tasks, testing data loads, designing processes for handling large amounts of data and later analysing that data.
How will the contractor be using their technical skills?
To perform database centric tasks, such as data refreshes, executing testing processes, troubleshooting performance issues.
