Job Summary

Our client, a Federal Government Department in Canberra is seeking the services of an experienced Machine Learning Specialist.

Contract 1 Mar 2018 to 28 Feb 2019 (plus possible extension options up to 2 years)

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Analysis of technical and organisational requirements for existing and proposed applications;

  • Development of machine learning capabilities as part of high performance solutions and projects, in accordance with the organisations development frameworks (design, programming, testing and documenting)

  • Contribute to project delivery by developing technical specifications, systems designs and operational support documentation to maintain or establish applications;
  • Support data acquisition activities and preparation, including loading, cleaning, manipulating and exporting
  • Research and develop statistical machine learning models for data analysis
  • Build and run analytical prototypes to generate actual insights and results
  • Implementation of proposed solutions including training, testing, release management and operations teams;
  • Process documentation;

  • Identification of solution issues and develop strategies to resolve them;
  • Provide expert advice on solutions, designs and approaches:
  • Escalation of issues and risks within project structures;
  • Coordination of testing & training;
  • Work effectively in a small team environment;
  • Collaboration with partners and external providers;
  • Provide knowledge/skills transfer to other team members;

Qualifications and Skills

  • Formal information and communications technology qualifications from a recognised tertiary institution or demonstrated skills and experience
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working with application development technologies and best practice coding standards
  • Experience in the practical application of Machine Learning techniques and principles (2 years+)

  • Experience in data preparation activities including loading, cleaning, manipulating and exporting data.
  • Experience in development in Python with a background in C/C++ (5 years+)
  • Experience in concurrent and distributed systems (5 years+)
  • Ability to work within team and collaborative environments exchanging and conveying complex ideas
  • Experience in identifying opportunities for improvement and developing and delivering software development methodologies to enhance business outcomes
  • Experience in prototyping and standing-up analytical infrastructure to support problem solving
  • Self-motivated, innovative, able to use initiative, and a proven commitment to achieve business objectives on time

  • Knowledge or experience in probability, statistics and Datamodelling (Desirable)
  • Knowledge or experience in speech recognition or audio processing (Desirable)
  • Advanced knowledge of analytics and data processing technologies and architectures. (Desirable)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate complex science concepts to any audience. (Desirable)

The client requires the applicants to hold Australian Citizenship and NV 1 Clearance.
