Description

We are working with The UKSBS - Science and Technology Facilities Council to find a senior engineer.

The position requires, as a minimum, the following demonstrable qualifications, skills and prior experience:

Essential. First degree or equivalent in Electronics, Physics, Communications Technology or a related subject. Good computer and application skills. Good attention to detail. Good organisational abilities. Fluent English spoken and written. Able to deliver at speed Desirable. Professional qualifications (eg MIET, CEng). Proficiency in the use of ADS and HFSS design tools

Key tasks and deliverables

The main activities that the successful candidate will be expected to perform are as follows. Interpreting customer system-level requirements specifications to derive component-level requirements. Design of components and subsystems at frequencies ranging from RF (1GHz) to millimetre-wave (100GHz). Integrating and testing prototype and breadboard receivers in the microwave laboratory. Integrating and testing flight receivers to the required flight standards, working in ESD-controlled cleanroom conditions. Providing detailed feedback to colleagues in the RAL design team as well as preparing inputs to documentation and reports for presentation to the customer(s) at project reviews. Identifying and recommending possible improvements in efficiency or quality at any stage of the integration and test procedures

Experience Required

The position requires, A minimum of five years experience in RF, microwave or millimetre-wave design at components and/or instrument level. Prior experience in assembly, integration & test of microwave instrumentation. Extensive experience in the use of microwave test equipment. Experience in data preparation and presentation Desirable. Experience of space flight hardware development or space qualification. Prior experience in assembly, integration & test of millimetre wave components. Experience of working in a cleanroom. Familiarity with Product Assurance requirements. Experience in the use of data manipulation and visualization packages eg IDL, Matlab. Experience with programming or using test instrumentation using Labview
