My Government client is looking for a UX/Interaction designer, predominately to re-engineer Legacy User Journeys.

This is a chance to work on services that matter, with people who value design and create work you're proud to talk about.

As an interaction designer you'll work in a multidisciplinary team, alongside researchers and developers, to deliver word-class, user-centred public services.

The role:

As an interaction designer your job will be to design accessible public services that are simple enough for everyone to use.

You'll be excited by the challenge of creating digital services that work across multiple channels, devices, browsers and platforms.

You'll be able to see the bigger picture as well as the fine detail, and be able to sketch in code as well as on paper.

You'll understand the way that the Internet works and how to design in an agile environment.

You'll want to help the government transform they way it delivers services, so that they're more efficient, simpler, faster and easier to use.

Main responsibilities:

  • understand user needs and how to design services that meet them
  • design user-centred interfaces and transaction flows
  • create and iterate prototypes to test and communicate ideas
  • work with user researchers and Front End developers to turn concepts into user-centred services
  • ensure that the design of services is consistent, both internally and with the rest of GOV.UK
  • contribute to cross government interaction design patterns and standards
  • contribute to the wider community of designers in government

Skills and experience:

The ideal candidate will:

  • know how the Internet works
  • have a design related degree, or relevant industry experience
  • be able to sketch and prototype on paper and in HTML
  • be able to work quickly in an agile environment
  • be able to explain ideas in a way that other people understand
  • welcome the constructive criticism of their work
  • be able to constructively review the work of others
  • know how to interpret user research
  • User Journeys
  • have a basic understanding of typography
  • know how to design accessible, secure, responsive user interfaces
  • understand how form and function work together
  • know how to remove complexity from services
  • be able to write for user interfaces
  • explain design decisions and be able to represent a service at a service assessment
  • assess a service and give constructive feedback
  • put forward the case for design with a product manager
  • collaborate on designs with a developer
  • engage the whole multidisciplinary team with the design process
  • lead a workshop
  • work at pace
