Job Role: Data Designer
Location: Northampton
Contract Length: 3 months + extensions
Start Date: ASAP

Job description

Overall purpose of role
* To work with the business and operations to understand and develop their data requirements
* To work with technology partners to ensure technology have a full understanding of the data requirements
* To provide optimal solution as a data architect
* Application development by following Agile practices
* Work closely with the peers within/outside team
* Enhance and improve application development capability
* Highlight risk and issues via effective control and Standard company processes.
* Actively participate in internal initiatives outside project work (for example, adoption of new tools and internal process improvements)

Key Accountabilities

Solutions Development (80%)
* Responsible for creating technology solutions, architectural visions, proofs of feasibility and solutions impacts assessments to meet business requirements in line with BCP and Group IT Strategies and Architectures.
* Works with external partners and suppliers to deliver require business services and products.
* Pro-actively researches relevant technologies and demonstrate their benefits by developing POCs where necessary
* Adding clarity to business requirements; challenges business requirements to ensure high quality candidate solutions are created
* Provides thought leadership and drive technology innovation.

Advice and Guidance (20%)
o Gives hands on guidance and support to BCP delivery teams
o Maintains detailed awareness of, takes fully into account, and promotes throughout the organisation, any relevant statutory, internal or external regulations, standards and codes of good practice. Is capable of contributing to the definition of such regulations, standards and codes.
o Actively contributes to the development and promotion of Barclays International technology organisation.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership
Provides advice and guidance to business and technology stakeholders in shaping the portfolio of technology solutions to support business needs.

Decision-making and Problem Solving
Identifies common needs and opportunities for joint/aligned solutions across BCP, Barclaycard Business Solution and Barclays International.

Thinks outside of the box to support the business in delivering its strategic objectives rather than just responding to a pre-defined requests.

Risk and Control Objective
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.

Person Specification
Personal attributes essential to performing role including competencies, expertise, knowledge, and experience.

* Very strong, hands-on technical skills with broad knowledge of web technologies, methodologies and standards
* Strong software development and application architecture experience
* Great communicator with the ability to explain technical decisions to the broader team and company at executive
* Passionate about and experienced at: working in agile environments; continual delivery techniques; testing
* A life-long learner who freely shares information and experience and seeks knowledge from others

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:
* Familiar with integration and implementation issues and their architectural implications.
* Good knowledge of open source technologies and deep knowledge of web technologies, methodologies and standards
* Strong software development and application architecture experience
* Good knowledge of open source technologies
* Understanding of key considerations in Secure systems & software design, Resilience and High-Availability patterns for mission-critical applications, including multi-data-centre deployments
* Knowledge of Reference data
* Experience in DevOps implementation and ability to continually identify automation and integration opportunities to continuous improvement in application development processes.
