Metrology Engineer

  • Ideal Candidate: At least eight years experience in metrology engineering at a large company primary standards laboratory level or comparable related technical activities, including application of advanced measurement engineering principles and technology related to highly complex technical assignments.

Description:

  • This position is for a Metrology Engineer. Candidate must possess the ability to design, install and validate multiple and complex calibration and measurement systems with minimal supervision.
  • The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record in the design, development, evaluation and testing of instrumentation systems and will be a recognized expert in the field of pharmaceutical metrology. Additionally, the candidate will possess the ability to interact with various departments/teams and other Amgen sites in order to implement a global calibration control program. The candidate will also apply statistical process control, mathematical, physical science and advanced engineering tools and technologies in order to accomplish various metrology engineering objectives. Furthermore, the candidate will prepare and deliver effective periodic briefings, presentations, and technical papers for company management, industry conferences, and other associated publications. Specific experience with multiple measurement disciplines in areas such as Pneumatic/Hydraulic Pressure and Electronics (AC/DC) is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare calibration procedures/job plans and associated training materials.
  • Perform measurement uncertainty analysis for primary/working standards and process instrumentation.
  • Perform Vendor Quality Audits of calibration service suppliers and oversee vendor quality issues.
  • Interface with Corporate Facilities Team with regard to CMMS calibration issues.
  • Own and develop Global Calibration Control Program SOP and associated training material.
  • Serve as technical expert with regard to calibration issues during regulatory inspections.
  • Provides technical consultation to others pertaining to measurement problems and leads technical project teams.
  • Implement corrective and preventative action projects pertaining to calibration and measurement issues.
  • Establish measurement traceability of laboratory standards and ensure that their processes are in a state of statistical control.

REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE

  • At least eight years experience in metrology engineering at a large company primary standards laboratory level or comparable related technical activities, including application of advanced measurement engineering principles and technology related to highly complex technical assignments.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL

  • Bachelor of Science degree or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics with a minimum of seven years engineering experience in pharmaceutical or electro-mechanical metrology (or other related fields).

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Conduct calibration activities in support of metrology operation. Calibrate/adjust Measurement Test Equipment in accordance with established procedures and specifications. Operate laboratory working standards and maintain measuring integrity. Complete work orders per established schedule and complete documentation.
