Description

The Role:

In this role you will be a key member of team delivering important strategic initiatives as part of the bank's overall vision and roadmap. We are currently looking for an experienced Data Engineering Specialist to join our Team and take on a engineering role across a number of projects. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, highly motivated and will thrive in a challenging work and dynamic team environment. You will work closely with our key stakeholders, the data science and Data Quality teams and third party vendors to expand and enhance our data and analytics capabilities, delivering value across the enterprise.

Essential Duties
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Design, architect and lead delivery of high quality, fully tested data engineering components leveraging multi-disciplinary teams such as Product Owners, Data Architects, Data Scientists, Data Analysts, Data Engineers
  • Input across all aspects of the analytics life cycle and take a leadership role in overall design, execution and delivery
  • Stays abreast of internal and external developments to identify and implement best practice methodologies, leading optimisation efforts in our production run-books
  • Communicates with the business to scope, gather, and estimate requirements
  • Develop data engineering standards and drive best practice in areas including documentation, test plans and code management
  • Drive a culture of reuse and sharing of technology assets whilst delivering flexible and responsive solutions to a rapidly-evolving environment
  • Automation and standardisation of data extraction, transformation, loading (ETL), analysis, visualisation and deployment
  • Use a wide range of technologies, database management systems, and visualisation software
  • Actively contribute to improving operational efficiency on projects and internal initiatives, consistently driving projects to completion, ensuring that deadlines are met, and high-quality outputs are produced
  • Contribute to our in-house Knowledgebase/Confluence site

Person Specification
Knowledge, Education & Experience:
  • At least 7+ years in analytics/data engineering
  • Experience in maintaining large data warehouse systems
  • Strong experience in working with data governance and data security teams and in moving data pipelines into production with appropriate data quality, governance and security standards
  • Datamodelling and data design concepts
  • Proven critical thinking and analytical problem-solving with the ability to assimilate and apply new techniques and knowledge
  • Proven track record of excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Experience of software development life cycle, including solution design, development and release management. (Agile/SCRUM)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate proposed solutions, requirements and design effectively to developers, all levels of management, as well as partners
Essential Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent SQL Skills
  • Strong understanding of data warehouses, data marts and the Kimball methodology
  • Demonstrated knowledge and applied usage of various Microsoft Database, ETL and reporting technologies (SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS)
  • Experience with other ETL tools such as Datastage and Informatica a big plus
  • Experience with Data Visualisation Tools such as Power BI/Tableau/Qlik Sense etc
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Release Automation in a Data setting would beneficial
