Description

Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Scotland, is currently looking to recruit 5x Senior User Researchers for initial 6 month contracts on a rate of £500-
£530/day (inside of IR35). Our client asks that the successful candidates would be able when such things are allowed to be in Scotland (and available to travel around Scotland) to conduct User Research. For now they are remote working, but when we are allowed to do face to face UR again they will need the contractors to be able to be in Scotland reasonably regularly.

Responsibilities:

- Planning and executing field and lab based user research according to business and project needs.
- Advising on choice and application of appropriate user research methods and tools to assure best practice and ensure that research findings are robust, actionable and suited to the overall aims and objectives of the project.
- Facilitating the inclusion of different types of users in appropriate research activities.
- Advocating for accessibility, assisted digital, and inclusive design practices and helps teams design and deliver accessible services that work for all users.
- Supporting teams to continually improve their understanding of and engagement with users.
- Providing actionable insights to support design decision making.
- Championing and advocating for user research and engaging sceptical colleagues and stakeholders.
- Undertaking development and assurance of ethics and consent processes; supporting the development of privacy and equalities impact assessments.
- Participating in and/or supporting programme and project assurance activities.
- Other duties as required by the organisation to support wider corporate activities.

Essential Skills:

- Significant experience of conducting user research.
- Leading on the design and delivery of a wide range of inclusive user-centred design research including:
- Negotiating/agreeing research proposals/plans.
- Delivering relevant research activity, including recruitment of participants and running user research sessions.
- Delivering actionable insights from user research.
- Advocating for user-centred practice, including ensuring that decisions about the design and development of social security benefits are informed by user insights.
- Choosing and applying appropriate user-centred design research methods (eg desk research, qualitative research, survey design, data analytics, usability testing and accessibility testing) for different design life cycle phases (from data gathering to synthesis and analysis).
- Communicating research approaches and insights effectively to stimulate conversation and collaboration, and enable the project team to agree priorities.
- Experience of working in an User Centred Design setting and Agile working practices.

Desirable Skills:

- Experience of user research in a public sector setting.
- Experience of leading either digital first or GDS service assessments.
- Experience of working in a user-centred way in a large and complex business setting.
