Technical Architect

Whitehall Resources are currently looking for a Technical Architect on a remote basis for an initial 2-month contract.

* PLEASE NOTE THIS ROLE HAS BEEN DEEMED INSIDE IR35.*

Summary:
As a Technical Architect you will:
- Be working with engineering teams, be responsible for supporting the design, development, delivery and maintenance of IT products and services.
- Have and share your knowledge and experience - blending technical knowledge, architecture and development skills.
- In addition, you will bring a breadth of understanding across a range of technical domains and depth of experience in at least one domain or specialism.

Responsibilities:
- Lead, deliver and support technical design of a product or part of a shared platform to meet user needs and business objectives.
- Lead on ensuring high quality of technical design, and adherence to enterprise architecture principles and roadmaps
- Build relationships and work collaboratively with Digital professions in agile delivery teams to create VFM solution designs that meet user needs
- Engage with Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, Lead Solution Architects and engineering teams to implement the solutions according to agreed and approved architecture designs.
- Deliver product solutions and be accountable for product architecture in alignment with engineering.
- Identify, capture, share and iterate architecture patterns to ensure consistent and coherent architecture design, contributing to the Enterprise Architecture.
- Implement architecture patterns creating reference architectures as real-world working examples of successful architecture design.
- Create solution options and recommendations - during project discovery and inception phases to drive decision making on best solution design.
- Make technology choices for products in conjunction with the enterprise architecture blueprint, contributing to the update of technology policies where appropriate.
- Contribute to building an inclusive digital culture within the department.

Technical Skills required:

Bridging the gap between technical and non-technical - Able to listen to the needs of the technical and business stakeholders and interpret between them. Capable of proactive and reactive communication.

Technical breadth - Has a deep understanding of the technical concepts required in their role and understands how these fit into the wider technical landscape. Understands the limitations of digital technology.

Systems Design - Design's systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact and business or technical complexity. Selects appropriate design standards, methods and tools and ensures they are applied effectively. Reviews the systems designs of others to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology.

Understanding Constraints - Works with and challenges senior stakeholders. Can prioritise and mitigate constraints and can turn them into an advantage. Is able to adapt the approach depending on the constraints.

Turning business problems into technical designs - Designs technical solutions by dealing with problems that span different business areas. Works across multiple services or a single large or complicated service. Draws links between problems in order to reach common solutions.

Prototyping - Sees prototyping as a team activity, actively soliciting prototypes and testing with others. Establishes design patterns and iterates them. Knows a variety of methods of prototyping and chooses the most appropriate ones. Knows how to version and host a prototype

Technical Skills:
- API and Event Based architecture design patterns, including pub-sub and data streaming
- Architecting events-based architecture across multiple data centres and public clouds
- API Gateway and micro-gateway patterns and capabilities such as traffic control, security, logging, monitoring and authentication eg Kong API Gateway
- Agile/DevOps delivery methodologies and best practice.
- Microservice and API-Led architecture and integration design tools, techniques and best practice.
- Demonstrable experience of producing AWS solutions/architectures, adhering to the AWS 'Well Architected Framework',
- Container, and networking design patterns, tools and best practice.
- COTS, Relational databases

Desirable experience:
- Architecting scalable public facing web applications with account-based access.
- Securing Internet facing applications and protecting data at rest and in transit.
- Content Delivery Network technologies such as Akamai.
- Architecting solutions with "Help Desk" integration.
- Architecting solutions which provide data analytics capabilities.
- Architecting solutions which require data migration.
- AWS and AWS Well Architected Framework.
