Description

Service Designer required to work with a Government department. This is an initial 6 month contract, paying £650 per day, inside IR35, remote until further notice (offices based in London).

Our systems have been built to deliver different services with a tendency to focus on the business value before considering user needs and technical complexity. This has led to multiple systems duplicating technical functions, whilst meeting differing business needs.

Computing eligibility for is the most prominent example, where at least five different services determine eligibility, all using different and unconnected technology stacks. Assessing eligibility happens at various times and in different ways along the user journey. Even though rules and outputs may differ for each service, systems delivering these services need not. Moreover, we should be able to reduce risk and improve efficiency if the heavy cognitive load of implementing eligibility is shared rather than duplicated.

We need to gain a better understanding of the different way's eligibility is assessed, how it that is done and the impact it has on different types of users: applicants who are trying to understand if they are eligible, caseworkers assessing eligibility of applicants and providers trying to assess if clients are eligible.

So far, the hypothesis is that an eligibility platform could provide an alternative approach and reducing the burden on our Legacy systems. To understand this feasibility, we need to complete a discovery to understand if it is viable.

Skills and Experience Required:
*You have a strong grounding in user-centred design, from concept to final delivery. You know which tools, process or methods to use and how to bring an agile delivery team along with you.
*You can listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpret them in a way that is clear for both audiences. You know how to manage stakeholder expectations and navigate difficult discussions.
*You know what good public services look like end-to-end, and how to design in an inclusive, accessible way.
*You create high-quality, compelling design concepts and artefacts such as service maps, models and blueprints.
*You are experienced in paper and digital prototyping. You understand the way the Internet works and are responsive to changes in technology, adapting your concepts and approach accordingly
*You are a strong team player who knows how to work with and get the best out of a multi-disciplinary delivery team
