Description

Role: Scala Developer

Organisation: Central Government

Contract Length: 3-6 months

Location: WFH, Edinburgh

IR35: INSIDE IR35

Candidate Pay: £475-£550/day

Description:

Support delivery teams in making key technical decisions, applying a breadth of technical knowledge alongside an understanding of organisational constraints to help them build services that meet our organisational aims.

Promote best practices for development and testing across all teams, to improve and maintain the quality of code being produced, identifying where teams need additional training or support.

Identify ways to iterate and improve our ways of working through technical, process or cultural changes, thereby increasing the effectiveness of our delivery teams, the quality of our services and our ability to create services that best meet the needs of our users.

Help to assess the performance and capability of our delivery teams, working alongside operations colleagues to raise concerns around capability and manage these to appropriate resolutions.

Ensure that the services we build apply appropriate security standards and meet various legal requirements around concerns such as accessibility and data protection.

Support in the process of impacting future work, giving initial input into the roles and experience required for upcoming projects.

Have a strong understanding of the most appropriate modern stands and practices for the development and testing of web Front End and API services.

Facilitate the on-boarding of new developers and testers into Digital Delivery Centres, ensuring they are able to quickly deliver value into our teams.

In addition:

You will have proven experience of

Scala, with an appreciation of its functional capabilities

A modern MVC framework

Unit and integration testing frameworks, including mocking

Distributed version control

Continuous integration tooling

NoSQL databases

Modern HTML, CSS and Javascript

You must be able to demonstrate you can:

Build applications with a microservice architecture in a cloud environment

Work in an agile environment in a development role, at a lead or senior level, focussing on user-centered design.

Problem solve and provide a range of possible solutions, including through technical work and process change.

Coach and guide others.

Balance your time supporting multiple teams.

Apply techniques such as test driven and behaviour driven development.

Influence stakeholders through strong negotiation skills, applying clear and concise communications using appropriate language for non-technical colleagues.
