Description
Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Front End Developer for an initial 3 month contract with the potential to extend to up to 18 months on a rate of £650-£750/day (inside of IR35). Due to the current circumstances this role will be remote however some intermittent travel to Glasgow will be required.Responsibilities:
- Lead on the design, build and maintenance of cloud data environments and intuitive web applications, using open-source technologies and various agile approaches, in collaboration with other technical roles.
- Design and implement simple data pipelines, processing scripts and databases to be consumed through visualisation tools and other user interfaces, automating these processes where possible.
- Assist with project planning and management, applying your knowledge and experience to highlight potential project opportunities, challenges or risks to the project leads.
- Ensure that technical decisions support and meet our standards of quality, performance and reliability; scalability and availability; security and data protection.
- Apply and champion best development practices such as version control, unit testing, code review, and well documented applications.
- Apply knowledge and experience to troubleshoot and resolve application-related issues throughout the product life cycle, including out of hours support for incident resolution.
- Share knowledge and skills with the wider team, both technical and non-technical colleagues, aiming to maintain a strong collaborative environment, and interact positively with a variety of stakeholders to build community, capability and credibility.
Essential Skills:
- Understanding and working knowledge of Front End development and awareness or knowledge of various programming concepts.
- Proficiency in JavaScript/JQuery, or similar experience.
- Working knowledge of cloud based solutions (AWS/Google Cloud), and good understanding of API building and microservices.
- Experience with appropriate software development practices such as version control, test driven development and automated testing platforms.
- A demonstrable interest in new trends and technologies, best practices in development, and emerging engineering practices such data engineering or devops & dataops.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with UI Component Libraries, VueJS or ReactJS, and JS-based build tools like Grunt, Webpack, Gulp, and Bower.
- Experience working with PHP, CSS/SASS, HTML, or similar experience.
- Proficiency in R, Golang, Node.js, D3.js.
- Experience with Unix/Linux based systems and Shell Scripting, and familiarity with web server configuration including Apache and Nginx.
- Knowledge of continuous deployment systems, eg Jenkins and Docker containers.
- Experience with Elasticsearch/Cloudsearch, Composer, Vagrant.
- Publicly available work on Bitbucket/GitHub is also desirable.
- Experience working to GDS standards
- Public sector experience (ideally Government)
