Linux & Windows Engineer

Duration: 3-4 Months

Location: Remote

Rate: £450 per day

Start: ASAP

IR35 Status: Inside

A Linux & Windows Engineer is required to provide Linux system engineering expertise to the existing Infrastructure Team with a specific focus on the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, maintenance and performance of services across the Client's Linux estate. You will also assist with the migration of a number of Legacy Apache web applications to a modern supported environment.

Essential skills/experience required:

At least 5 years' experience in a Linux system engineering role preferably with Red Hat and Centos.

Experience of other versions such as Ubuntu and SUSE Linux.

Thorough understanding of networking protocols, specifically DHCP/DNS, RADIUS, NTP, NFS, LDAP, SNMP.

Experience and knowledge of deploying and configuring common Linux application stacks, including but not limited to LAMP, HAProxy, ISCP DHCPd, Unbound, FreeRADIUS.

Experience and knowledge of Apache web server with Perl & PHP

Experience working with Linux in a primarily Windows-based environment via AD join/membership for authentication.

Experience of Active Directory.

Knowledge of Perl programming language.

Knowledge and experience using VMware vSphere.

Knowledge of network monitoring using tools such as LibreNMS.

Experience of deploying and troubleshooting both Splunk & Nessus agents.

Experience building a 'golden image' for easy deployment.

Knowledge and Experience of CIS benchmarking/hardening.

Knowledge and Experience with Red Hat Launchpad (Also Canonical Landscape desirable).

Duties include:

To assist the Infrastructure Team with rebuilding and upgrading the existing mixed Linux estate in line with Client standards.

To assist the Systems Team in migrating a number of Legacy Apache web applications.

To assist with harmonising systems onto a smaller set of managed platforms.

In accordance with Client policies and standards ensure automation of patch deployment and application.

To ensure full integration of Linux systems into the existing Vulnerability Management and Managed SIEM operations.

To develop and maintain documentation about the Linux estate according to DTS policies and standards.

To work in compliance with the Client's Cyber security strategy by ensuring that appropriate technical security controls and capabilities are implemented across the Linux estate.

To provide technical advice, expertise and assistance to the Infrastructure Team and other technical support teams about all aspects of the Linux deployment and any on-going maintenance activities.

To follow the Clients Change Management procedures and to attend change boards and project meetings and other forums as required.

To ensure that that all information is managed securely in accordance with Client policies and information security related legislation.
