Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Software Development Manager to join a Security Software Solution Company based in Southampton offering an exciting and fast-paced environment.

The Software Development Manager will be responsible for the line management of team of Agile software developers and have operational ownership of development tools and systems, and software development processes and procedures.

The Software Development Manager will actively manage situations where the software development does not align with the operational development processes and procedures.

This position will be based in the Southampton office, with occasional travel to customer sites and the businesses northern office.

Responsibilities include:
  • Line management of software development team including annual appraisals, regular 1-2-1 meetings, staff development and recruitment.
  • Support the Agile development environment by actively motivating and mentoring the software developers.
  • Responsible for consistently following all HR processes (sickness, holiday, expenses etc).
  • Document, implement and monitor that operational development processes and procedures are being followed (code management, code review, unit testing, etc).
  • Actively manage situations where the software development undertaken does not align with operational development processes and procedures.
  • Actively manage situations where the code quality (maintainability) and style does not align with operational development processes and procedures.
  • Act as an escalation point for critical issues.
  • Act as a key stakeholder on internal development systems projects.
  • Operate as a Product Owner on Internal development systems projects.
  • Monitor, manage and report on agreed KPIs.
  • Occasionally, deputise for the SCRUM Master and Head of Development.
  • Upkeep of applicable internal systems.
  • Upkeep of own skills and knowledge that pertains to role, keeping up-to-date with best practice development technologies etc.


Skills and Experience
  • Significant operational management experience gained within an Agile software development environment.
  • Significant experience of line managing and developing the skill-set of technical specialists.
  • Experience of software development practices including code management.
  • Experience of Linux development in Perl or C/C++, web development, network configuration and management.
  • Conceptual understanding of QA function.
  • Experience of Git, Gerrit, and Jenkins
