Description
Senior UNIX Systems Administrator - Linux/UNIX Administrator - Senior UNIX SA - Inverness. Due to continued growth we are looking for a UNIX Administrator will support the hosting of the organisation's mission critical environments.The UNIX Engineer will possess the ability to interface with other senior members of team who are responsible for supporting UNIX operating systems and deploying applications in the UNIX space. A thorough knowledge of UNIX (Linux and Solaris) is required along with a strong understanding of networking technologies. The Senior UNIX SA should be very technical but also be able to bridge the communication gap and communicate with the Client.
Contract Length: 6 months
Contract Location: Inverness
Rate: £ per day DOE
Responsibilities:
- Build, manage and operate UNIX servers in a large 7x24 financial services Production environment
- Manage Symantec's Veritas cluster services/Red Hat Cluster services for supporting Database and MQ high availability
- Server administration using Oracle Solaris features such as containers/ zones, LDOMs, disk mirroring, ZFS, explorer, NFS, RBAC, Solaris 10, Sun DiskSuite, Veritas Volume Manager, virtual networks, and Veritas Cluster
- Develop automation using perl/shell scripts for storage, archiving, and backup, as well as general Solaris/Linux system administration processes
Key Skills:
- 5+ years' experience in working with UNIX/Linux and Solaris servers.
- Familiar with virtualization concepts with emphasis on VMWare, VSphere.
- Helpful to know: IBM MQ, Oracle or Sybase Databases; IBM Connect Direct, Webphere, JBOSS and Bladelogic.
- Helpful to know disk management tools such as LVM2, Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Clustering and Solaris Volume Manager.
- Functional knowledge of core protocols such as TCP/IP, SSH, SMTP, LDAP, NFS and DNS.
- Knowledge of shell scripting (ksh, bourne, bash, csh, etc).
