Software Engineer (Ruby/Rails)

Description

We’re looking for a talented, experienced, software engineers to join our Engineering team and help us on our mission to democratise accounting for small businesses across the world!

FreeAgent is one of the leading online accounting platforms in the UK with 40,000 delighted customers and continued fast growth. You’ll be working with some of the smartest engineers around, collaborating on new features and taking a leading role in solving the technical challenges that come with building a hugely popular web application, in a scalable, performant, and elegant way.

Areas of experience that are valuable in this role

Building and maintaining large, high-scale web apps in production environments

Ruby on Rails

Competence in Javascript and front-end frameworks, ideally React

Solid experience with MySQL, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, ideally at scale

Comfortable diagnosing performance issues deep down in the stack

Well read, strong in CS and OO fundamentals

BSc/Masters degree in CompSci or equivalent

Leadership skills, line management experience (optional but desirable)

We have a lovely office in the West End of Edinburgh and offer a relocation package – Edinburgh is a fantastic place to live. It has a vibrant tech scene, the world’s largest arts festival, it has even been voted the best place in the UK to live for the past two years. What’s not to like?

If you can't relocate to Edinburgh, don't panic! We welcome a remote arrangement for UK-based candidates. 5 of our Engineering team are fully remote across the UK.
