My Essex based engineering company urgently requires a System Engineer on a 4 month contract with the possibility of an extension.

Overall Purpose of the Job

The Systems Engineer is responsible for specifying and designing systems, and taking responsibility for the engineering component of these systems, through to testing, commissioning and customer handover.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Assume technical lead for projects in addition to supporting other Systems, and Lead Project Engineers on all other company projects.

Produce Functional Design Specifications from customer specifications

Produce block diagrams, system schematics, bill of materials and cable schedules

Program PLC, HMI & Scada Systems

Produce technical documentation, including manuals and test procedures

Assist with internal and customer Factory Acceptance Tests

Travel worldwide to commission systems on board all types of vessels

Conduct Harbour and Sea Acceptance Trials through to customer handover

Attend meetings with customers and other departments on and off site

Assist with the development and assessment of new products

Follow schedules and tasks assigned by the Systems Engineering Manager

Minimum Educational Requirements

HNC/Degree Level in either Electronic Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering, ideally with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a relevant control and automation industry

Essential Skills & Experience

More than 2 years' experience, knowledge and understanding in PLC and Scada based software packages and environment

Experience with Controls, Automation, Electrical and Electronics System Integration

Familiarity with P&ID drawings

Experience of structured programming languages

Ability to work well within a team whilst at the same time demonstrating initiative and the ability to work without supervision.

Solid problem solving, decision making and analytical capabilities.

Prepared to work on site aboard a variety of marine vessels afloat and in shipyards.

Available for worldwide travel.

The working week is 37.5 hours. Flexitime is applicable around core working hours 9-4 Mon to Thu, 9 -3 Fri.
