Description

Software Engineer - Contract role working Porton down - South West, for 1.5 years. We are looking for Software Engineer for our Defence sector client.

Job Role: Software Engineer - Defence

Location: Porton down - South West

Duration: 1.5 Years Contract

Essential

  • Understanding of software/systems engineering principles.
  • Knowledge and experience of developing software products throughout the software development life cycle including requirements specification, design, implementation, and testing in accordance with the necessary Technology Readiness Level required.
  • Knowledge and experience of Software Processes and Practices (particularly TickIT+ as Client is accredited to foundation level) and their use in software development.
  • Competent in two or more of the following Software Engineering technologies and practices: C, C++, Java and UML.
  • Knowledge and experience of Object Oriented Design.
  • Competent in the use of MS Office, Netbeans and MS Visual Studio 2012.
  • A willingness to learn, develop and exploit innovative software methods, tools and techniques.
  • The ability to think logically, to decompose a problem into its component parts whilst maintaining a holistic perspective.
  • The ability to describe challenging technical software and systems related concepts to stakeholders who may not have a background in the area, but need to understand their value and impact.
  • Experience in software development and/or test engineering.
  • Experience of analysing software development artefacts (eg software requirements, design etc) and identifying potential problems and solutions.
  • Experience of working in a team and contributing to a successful outcome.
  • Experience of working to deadlines and producing quality innovative technical products under pressure to time and cost.
  • Experience of technically leading projects on their own, leading others, monitoring performance, and providing feedback through reviewing other peoples work.
  • Experience of mentoring other members of the team.
  • Experience of networking and building relationships both internally and externally to achieve results.
  • Knowledge of Software Configuration Management and Control.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Distributed/Multi-Core/parallel programming techniques.
  • An understanding of Modelling and simulation.
  • Experience of implementing software artefacts for Modelling and simulation projects.
  • Experience in the CBR domain.
  • Experience of implementing software solutions for Synthetic Environments and Simulation Interoperability Standards (ie DIS/HLA).
  • Experience of implementing software solutions for Mathematical/Statistics based systems.
  • Experience of CLIENT Information Systems and Host Infrastructure.
  • Experience of implementing complex mathematical formulae within software.
  • Demonstrate they can translate customer requirements into a programme of work.
  • Understanding of CLIENT customer structures, the CLIENT research programme and equipment acquisition process.

Essential

A Degree or advanced professional qualification in a relevant subject in computer science, information science, information systems, information technology or a related field.

Desirable

A higher degree in related discipline. Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body (such as BCS or IET)
