Description
The Unix Administrator is required to support both Production and Development infrastructures. In addition, the role holder performs the role of System Administrator for large and small, simple and complex multi-platform information systems.
Key Duties
Responsible for installation, tuning and maintenance of operating systems
Delivers modifications to the companies computer environments in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance
Manages backup and monitoring of the systems.
Keep abreast of emerging technologies.
Provides technical support and consultancy to applications development and user staff.
Supplies support to business initiatives by delivering projects to planned timelines and budget
Skills required
Extensive knowledge of Unix operating systems which should include Linux and Solaris or AIX
Knowledge of the underlying hardware and infrastructure.
Research, product comparison and recommendation of hardware and software to support ongoing business requirements and future developments to the benefit the company
AWS Cloud - EC2, VPC, RDS, Autoscaling, Load Balancing, High Availability, Storage/CDN), JBoss, Apache, Tomcat, Ruby, Oracle.
Scripting - Shell, Perl, Ruby, etc.
Automation - Puppet (or similar)
Good problem solving skills
Good communication skills including the ability to develop and document Operational procedures.
A desire to achieve and succeed showing initiative and self-motivation.
A conscientious and flexible approach to the position
A relevant degree/qualification and/or proven track record.
Must be available to work on-call on a rota basis.
